I've been using AMD all my life. Honestly, they are no better or worse than Intel, I just find AMD chips a better value.

I like to use things off the beaten path that are great values, like AMD chips and Carvin guitars. Sometimes it's just different for different's sake.

I just picked up a refurb from FS for $469 bucks.

Might not be the greatest machine but it should be far better than the rig I'm using now, which is an old P4 server with 512 megs of ram. Can't do much multitasking with it.

The specs on the new machine are:

HP AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ 2.2 GHz
2 gigs of PC4200 DDR2 ram
200 gig HD 7200rpm

Anyone have any horror stories about refurb Future Shop machines? This is my first plunge.

Hope this rig solves my bottleneck problems.

can't comment on Future Shop refurbs, but that machine should be more than adequate for your needs. Maybe the RAM could be upgraded to DDR2 800 or something, but should run fine for you. Might want to check the power supply though.

Identical parts as a dell, made by the exact same place in China (Foxconn)

I thought the mini and Ipods were built by Foxconn, but I have no idea where the Mac Pro's are put together.
