OK! I'm a total newb, this is my first post, but here is my problem. I recently purchased a tascam 34b when i got it, i tested out the first channel and it was playing and recording fine. the second time i used it channel 2 wasn't getting any signal through the input but when i turned the input level knob back and forth a few times it started working. Then, last night ireceived my dx-4d and hooked it up, i fire up the deck and nothing was working so i unhooked the dx-4d and at first i was getting nothing when i played the tape and was getting no input signal thru channel 1 or 2, i tried turning the input and output knobs back and forth and i started getting playback on channel 1 but not on channel 2 and i still wasn't getting any input signal thru channels 1and 2. Is there anyone who can give me some things to check, or am i going to have to take it to someone who knows what they are doing, i'm no electronics wiz but hopefully there are some things i can test out on my own that aren't too difficult, like maybe it has dirty pots or a loose connection any advise would be greatly appreciated. tx.

Sounds just like my 22-2 that got busted up during shipping, some years back. It hardly showed any outside damage but inside, wow... The actual volume knobs, which are normally attached to a circuit board, were almost torn off and worked intermittent, just as in your example. Other boards were also cracked. Was yours shipped? I hope not 'cause it'll most likely be a not-so-easy repair. The only thing to suggest, and this may or may not work, is that you carefully take out and re-insert the 4 audio boards, accessible from the bottom.

well all the inputs were working fine last night. the playback on channel two wasn't working at first so i tried recording another short segment on channel two and it worked and after the short segment that i recorded was done playing the original track i recorded started playing, so it seems to be working alright now. I guess i should take a look inside and make sure some of the boards didn't get damaged during shipping like you said, maybe it would be covered by insurance. thanks for the advice.
