inline transformer vs. mic preamp

do inline impedance-matching transformers do the same thing as a mic preamp? which would give better sound quality? (generally)

i'm considering getting either four of this transformer
Audio-Technica CP8201 In-Line Transformer

or this 4-channel pre
SMPro Audio PR4v 4-Channel Preamp

because all my recording interface (M-Audio Delta 44) has is 1/4" inputs. any help/advice is appreciated.

Inline transformers do just what the name says -- match impedances.

If you're going to plug 4 microphones into your interface you need mic preamps, so if that's your intention get the mic preamps. The inline transformers will not function as microphone preamps.
