No problem at all, Benne. I hope you understand I'm not dissing Rode mics. I frequently use NTK as a main vocal mic, and I did mention that they are priced fairly. And soon, they really will be made entirely down under. I was only pointing out that you were overstating your case for a mid priced mic.
Be advised that I have a few mics, several of which are better vocal mics than a Rode NT-2, and I sweated and worked and went into hock for every one of them. I also own some perfectly good cheap mics that work, because they work, some of them a good deal cheaper than an NT-2. All I'm saying is that you would find it quite difficult to find a major recording studio anywhere, including Australia, that uses NT-2 as a main vocal mic.
A mic doesn't have to be expensive to be a "standard of the Industry", (see Shure SM-57 for proof of that.) but note that although this may be homerec.com, "the industry" is the recording industry, in which a $300 condenser is used very little in the recording of vocals on commercial CD's, because there are simply better mics. A Shure SM7B is only about $80 U.S. more than that NT-2, but it *is* a standard of the Industry, because there's hardly a professional studio in the world that doesn't have one in it's cabinet. I can also assure you, as many others will, that there are quite a few working stiffs on this board who have thousands of dollars sunk into microphones, including *all* of the high priced spreads I listed above. Damn few of them got their top flight gear handed to them on a silver platter.-Richie

Wow, quite a discussion. Thanks to everyone's input. It is greatly appreciated. Pj

Hey, I have the Rode NT-1 and I love it. I have a small project studio accompanied by a slew of Shure mics, a few nady mics (I know, I know, but they were cheap) and I also have acces to a Defunkin, a Blue, a few Neumanns, and a bunch of AKG's. The Defunkin is by far the most amazing vocal mic I have ever seen, and the Blue deffinately gets the Job done, but for the money (despite what some may say) I think RODE has outdone themselves. Just because a mic doesn't cost much, doesn't mean it's frequencies can't be phenominal. Just a few thoughts. So ya, RODE rocks!

I tried out a K2 this past few days. First I tried it out in the store and I don't think it had enough time to warm up properly, and I wasn't impressed with it. But I got it home (along with a Dragonfly) and tried them out on vocals and acoustic (guild F50) and I must say that I'm impressed with both of them. I don't know which one I will get, but they both sounded very good on acoustic and pretty good on my dookie voice. I'll have to record some takes with my 4050 and 414TLII to do some more comparisons. I'll post my opinions on that comparison later.

I also tried out an SM7 in the store (going into a CRAP mixer pre), and it didn't do the trick for my voice. (Maybe had something to do with the pres, but wasn't bright enough for me, which is what I was looking for). I'll probably get one anyway, I'm very sure I'll find a use for it.

I've never seen Richie to EVER be slanderous....very helpful and constructive always.
