Sorry, didn't know where to post this one. Anybody know of a good recording gear alternative to GC in the Indianapolis area?
I'm looking for a place to physically see things and browse. Since Mars bit the dust the only place I have found with somewhat of a selection is GC. (And the Indy GC's a little lame too.)

In the Indianapolis area there pretty much is GC. I used to hate big stores, Lord I hated Mars, but when GC came to Indy they actually had people that knew what they were doing there and had a decent selection. Kate (the mgr of th recording dept) is awesome there. She has given me super deals more than once.

If you don't mind driving, there are a few other alternatives not TOO far from Indy.

1) Sweetwater -- in Ft Wayne about 1.5 hours North of Indy on 69
2) Woodwind & Brasswind -- take 31 up to I80, it's near that area, not exactly sure.

Sweetwater is probably the best recording store in the world, though the pirces are not always the greatest.

WWBW has very good prices and a very decent selection. There showroom is quite large.

There are probably a few small stores in Indy that carry Tascam, and maybe Alesis, but as for more big names, sorry GC is the closest.

MIKE (I go through Indy about Monthly..I used to live in Muncie)

Thanks for the reply Mike.

This confirms what I suspected. Not a lot of choices. The GC seemed to me about like most of them. Hit or miss in other words.
I did however speak to a lady there once who seemed really sharp. I'm guessing that must be Kate.

I've heard of the Woodwind & Brasswind from a friend. (what a name, eh?) He said they had a very large selection of G&L guitars. (not an easy item to find good a selection on in these parts) I didn't know they handled recording gear. Sounds like a phone call to confirm this, and a little road trip for me.

Thanks,

Tom

From what I knew from a few years ago, WWBW does carry G&L but they get the factory 2nds. Most big retailers do, at least they used to. G&L changed their distribution methods about 1.5 years ago, so it could all be different now. I used to work at a G&L dealer in northern Indiana and we competed heavily with WWBW.

They do carry tons of stuff at WWBW, call them and get their Rock N Rythm catalog. Good stuff....

Ahhh, interesting info on the G&L's. That might explain the great prices he was telling me about. I shall be cautious. I'm primarily an acoustic player, but a G&L is on my list down the road. Played one once and fell in love. They're the guitar Fender could have been if Leo was still at the helm. (not dissin' Fender BTW, just that the G&L's are gorgeous)
And I'll check out the catalog. Thanks again.
