i currently record using a toneport ux1 for guitar, bass and drums. for drums i use just one mic and would rather upgrade to a interface that had 4 or more channels. the computer i have has no firewire capability so thats out of the question.

so basically i need a usb interface with 4 or more channels. what would you suggest.

For USB the The Focusrite Saffire 6, should be considered

You can install a firewire card into your computer which is what I did and what I recommend. You're generally not going to get more than 2 simultaneous tracks recording via usb, but firewire will get you 8. Or you could go with something like the M-audio delta 1010.

What's you budget?

Adding a firewire card is definately an option. I put one in my PC for about $25. You need a free pci slot though.

I haven't tried one, but I have been very interested in the Lexicon I-Onix. they have a 2, 4, and 8 channel flavor and are USB. Here's a liink:

i am using a laptop though so i can't add a firewire slot. i have a budget of about £400 for this although it seems that i should consider getting a new computer as firewire is the way to go.
