importance of cleaning the pinch roller

how important is it to clean the pinch roller? i dont have any rubber cleaner, but i cleaned the heads. my recordings all seem to be kinda noisy and have this weird wah-wah-wah-wah sound... is that cus i havent cleande the pinch roller?

What machine are you running?
Capstans and pinch rollers should be kept physically clean always.
Caig labs is the only source that I know of that makes products for this. DON"T buy anything from radio snack ever to clean anything!!!
Full Conpass is one source for caig products, they make a rubber cleaner/conditioner product.
If your machine is older or with a lot of hours, you may need a new drive belt. It could be streached or slipping, also the quality of tape has a lot to do with it. Most Tascams are calibrated for TDK chrome tapes. Never!! use cheap bargain tapes in a Porta- whatso ever.

im using "quantegy" in my 424... are those good? ill probably get some tdk's after i run out of these ones.

Make sure you don't use anything that will dry it out over time!

All portas- are callibrated for chrome tape. As long as the quantegy tapes are chrome your'e ok , the best is the TDK-sa's.
