An oil painting my wife did based on the cover art of an old Brazilian music LP we had... Still unpacking after our move and just unwrapped it, so I took a quick pic and here it is.

According to the Urban Dictionary (urbandictionary.com)

1. pwned
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.
"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."

--------

HA! Man, I especially like the bit about the "god-like force"! Hahaha! :D

Thanks Radiohead. Hey, you're a Navy guy in VA. Cool... I first started playing guitar while living in Norfolk just north of you. I was a Navy brat.

I played Warcraft!

I don't remember seeing that though. I guess I didn't lose!

I'm a bit of a language purist. It is not a real word.
Mostly I'm giving Casey a hard time.
How is it pronounced?

puwoned? pwoned? Silly.

What does Incanus mean? It is not in the dictionary either. :D

That's what's so funny about it... it's not pronounced! It's not a human English word but a comp-tech-in-error-on-the-screen word. We're living in TRON.

Shameful behavior from a philologist like yourself, really. :p

How so?
I'm not a philologist by a long stretch, however.
But I think most philologists would roll their eyes and shake their heads at a typo-become-norm word.
But I suppose it is not in the language proper and only exists in the internet world.
I shant use it, myself.

Not to take this thread too far afield , but if it's in use, isn't it a word? Even if stuffy oxford types roll their eyes and tug at their beards in vexation? Who is the "word gatekeeper" anyway. Is there a review panel of industry experts who vote?

Tim is an awesome guitar player. Discuss.

S. and I., I can only imagine the intellectual semantics contests that go on during your recording sessions! :D ...or... is it more likely that beyond the carefully constructed song lyrics you don't let language get in the way when you’re working?

We have been known to have long animated discussions about just about nothing. I wouldn't have it any other way. An easy guide to follow is that where we disagree, I am correct and Incanus is incorrect.

Or do I have that backwards?

:D
