Imitation of the Flight of the Hummingbird

Thanks guys. I was doubtful about how a remix would turn out doing it at home as I don't have very sophisticated sample rate conversion and needed to do that. Original DAT was at 48kHz and I had to rely on Wavelab's conversion to 44.1 which worked pretty well to my surprise. The original mastering guy used an analog transfer through high end converters, processing, and A/D back in for the CD master.

But it just occurs to me now... if a wav file is going to be converted to mp3, does it even have to be at 44.1? Let's see... well, my mp3 jukebox app with the mp3 conversion I usually use doesn't say in its help files. Guess I should try it but don't have time today.

The little bit of reverb that's on it was in the original tracking... to make my headphone monitoring sweeter sounding using an Alesis Microverb. The Lexicon hardware reverb that's in the first version was put on top of that. Well live and learn... for the last few years I as a rule never use any processing going in.

After listening to this song, my guitar just tapped me on the shoulder and said, "What the hell?!? Why do notes like this never come out of me?" I turned around and smacked my guitar right in the neck and told it to mind its own God damn business. My guitar then suggested that I become a drummer instead, so I lit it on fire and threw it out the window. Stupid uppity smartass guitar...

Anyway...what's really standing out to my ears, is your dynamics. I honestly believe that you have completely mastered something that us electric guitarists tend to completely ignore (and definitely shouldn't!)--the idea of all the varying types of emotion that can be thrown into a note by playing it a zillion different ways: heavy pluck, light pluck, staccato, let it ring, slide up to the note, slap it, mute it, volume adjustments...the list goes on and on. The lifetime of work you've put into your instrument is so apparent with this song, that I'm starting to believe that you could write a tune out of just one note, and all of us would still post reviews about how incredible it is.

Great work as always, Tim. However, I'm going to have to ask you to send me 1300 bucks to replace my guitar. Yes, it deserved what it got for lipping off to me like that, but it was your ridiculous amount of talent that caused it to be...insubordinate. :D

On a performance like that, production quality almost doesn't matter. You could of recorded that with a walkman and it would sound amazing. Phew... I'm worn out just listening to it.
What he said. :D

God, I can't believe it... that's a '62 Valiant! I know because that was my car until just a few years ago... and that's me underneath fixing its various unending mechanical problems... except in this picture I've become unconscious from the frustration of working on a 40 yr old car and turned facing downwards to avoid the incessant oil drip.

Purge, thanks. Please read my Rep message.

PURGE, you are one complex dude......but funny as hell, and even sincere. ;)

Oh yeah, what purge said too...even the geetar thing. I like to slowly scrape the finish off mine, after I have plunged the toilet with it. It still won't co-operate! Do ya think it is me? ;)

Great comments, Purge!

I often love listening to musicians who are light-years beyond me, but sometimes I have to shake my head and sigh and think, 'why bother?' But I'm hopelessly addicted, so that's a good enough reason.

Hey True !

Are you really 98 years old?

OH Shit! I just this second realized what a eurt is! I'd been wondering about that. It's just t-r-u-e backwards. HA!

Must you always have the last, and wisest word?

Oh yeah..... this is your thread :D

What other wisdoms shall you impart upon us, oh great one with thy magic fingers to play thy axe with ease and enchant the trolls of empty non-milky, non-creamy compandered sound?

Is that major suck up or what? :D :D :D :D :D :D

Looks like Tim is on to me.

Yes, the sig line is from Lord of the Rings. As is the screen name. It is one of Gandalf's many other names, but you'd only know that from reading the books. I'm a Tolkien fiend of the worst kind. But I'm here for the music!

Have a great weekend all !!!!!

Hey Supercreep and Incanus, I dunno but it seems like you may have another potential Little Purple Circles member in true-eurt. That line sounds oddly similar to the style of your own writing. I can hear the gently falling, sighing chromatic guitar line under it already. And her name is witty too...
