Thanks amigo.
Gives me an idea... I've got to start bringing my internet laptop out of the studio and putting it on our family room system to play some of the interesting stuff I find here for my wife. That way she might say, "hey, find any cool music today?" instead of "you spend too much time online."!

Shiatzu, sometimes when you’re doing take after take of a piece you wonder if it IS really worth it – so thank you for that.
Andydeedpoll, thanks buddy. Trombone… yeah! A friend of mine is a trombonist and teacher and in the years I taught down the hall from him I bet I heard every exercise and study ever written for the instrument… a cool sound and I think many of the studies would make good gtr solos.
Ecktronic, thanks. The smoothness on the track is maybe from my overuse at the time of split-band compression’s squashing of the low end! I loved the “head in the guitar” sound at the time – with close mic’ing and lots of low end compression to control the proximity effect.

great playing, i don't really like the reverb though, you can hear the trails a bit too much at a couple points, just back off on the verb a tiny bit and it will be perfect!

Can't disagree with you there. Some of the accented high notes and the ending chords are pretty wet sounding. At the time this was done I liked more reverb and asked the mastering guy for more-more-more. If I were to ever re-release it I'd use less. Good ears 47ronin and ecktronic.

On a performance like that, production quality almost doesn't matter. You could of recorded that with a walkman and it would sound amazing. Phew... I'm worn out just listening to it.

Tim, I have to put in a vote for a little less reverb as well. I think that reverb is crucial in mixing a recording of this kind--here it is just a tad too much.
But it sounds like you don't have the option of remixing this. Is that right?

BMG Skulk Music, thanks. Paganinni, Sor, Mertz… you did a lot on classical. As far as difficulty, I guess each type of guitar has its particular challenges.

Less Reverb
As suggested by 47ronin, ecktronic and Incanus, here's El Colibri with just a hint of reverb. I like it better this way especially in the occasional accented note and the last phrase. What do you think?

I think that is the perfect amount of reverb for a recording of this kind. It does not draw any attention to itself, but adds to the sound pleasantly. If I had not been specifically listening for it, I would not really have 'heard' it. That, to me, is ideal.
On a side note, I can't even picture in my mind where my fingers would have to go, or how they would have to move, to play the guitar like that. So good.
