Imaginary Lover

Awsome! If Steely Dan could have tapped this vein they might still be worthy of a comarison. This song rocks and better yet it would probobly appeal to evryone. It grooves in all the right places.Love the "whooo..." at aroun 3:25.Nice use use of stereo guitars.sounds mint in my headphones.only thing is...cut off that count off at the beginning, just come right in with it.I can relate to those imaginary lovers,my lovers names are Palmela and her five sisters inky, twitchy, tickler, stubby and stinky...satisfaction garanteed...

your gtr playing is the type that clearly shows you've been playing longer than two weeks;)
If you handed your gtr to someone else, I would BET MY BOTTOM DOLLAR, that it would NOT sound the same....aka not as good. Just like if Eddie vh handed his rig over to Joe Blow...it would sound like doo-doo in Joe's hands. The fingers do the magic, and this is proof, NO doubt about it.

nice pipes there too, bud!!

yeah..the compressor on the mix is doing its thing and a couple of other little things here and there, like the hot vocals you mentioned, but the musical integrity overshadows that stuff in this case big time.

your stuff always has sounded so "Georgia" to me, that it smacks of ..... kick booty,no fuss, hit the bus, gtr slingin', ....etc, etc.....

kramer...you're a jerk... you don't post here often enough with mp3's!!... actually, you do just fine. thanks for the tune.

I didn't read the other replies-

My first thought were the guitars were too loud, and thin sounding...

The vocals are superb! Sung very well, and mixed nice with a good reverb.

Biggest problem - the drums. Sounds like one pattern on a drum machine. Also a bit too much compression overall on the mix I think. Guitar riffs sound note for note. Drums are so mono too. Seems a bit lifeless overall, but very good playing!

hey im up changin diapers..lol...and altho i dont have time to listen to this new version i DID hear the one from oh about a month ago?...and ill be damned if you could tell it apart from the original...i mean trully it was great...i will try to get back in there and hear the newer version...i just flat out only have 5 or 6 minutes of free time every few hours....

again nice job

is this the same Kramer that hangs out on these boards?

This sounds really great!

sounds like the same time as foreigner era? late '70's

I've never heard this song before, but can tell it has a strong melody line and drive.

I noticed right off the bat the compressor was doing its thing over the mix.

Cant wait to hear your next!

Yes,it's the same Kramer who wants his autographed copy of a Jeff marcomb CD! I paid you through pay pal this morning. This song was from 1978 so you hit the nail on the head with the era guess. Thanks for checking it out man!

Im blushing man.:o I always appreciate your input Mixmkr. You are among the Elite talent in this joint and I pay attention to what you say. Thanks for all the compiments.I dont feel worthy of it all.:o (especially the guitar comments.YOU are the guitar king!)

I guess the only sound I can get is a "georgia" sound being that I was born and raised here.I cant seem to leave here for more than a week at a time. It's good to know Im not sounding like something Im not.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment mix.happy Holidays to you man!

Thanks for the honesty Shenker!I agree with everything you said. Those intro guitars are especially TOO loud eh?;)I was kind of shooting for a thin sound on the guitars. The original version is a little thin....I just got to the point with this song where I didnt care what it sounded like anymore.I spent too long with it and it just sounded worse by the day.
The compression issue has been addressed several times in this thread.I should have known better than to compress the stereo mix.
The drummer just sat in the pocket and did his best imatation of a Drum Machine. We laid the drums first along with me playing a scratch guitar as a guide so thats why it seems so extremely laid back and monotnous. He didnt have a song or band to play to,just me strumming the Chords of the song and mouthing the words to keep up with the different changes in the tune.
Thanks for the compliments on the vocals.Vocals used to be the weakest element of my total package, until I was thrown out front in a cover band and forced to sing.Im still not real confident in my singing but it seems to be getting better.
Thanks for checking it out man!

Jamal!Did you ever dream that taking care of a new born could be so time consuming?LOL.I dont have any but Ive helped raise a nephew from birth and they take up ALL your time. It's worth it though. It really gets fun when they start to sit up and crawl and make baby sounds.LOL..And when they start walking forget about it.It's wild man! They like to dance and put on shows when they learn how to walk.LOL.
Dont go out of your way to listen to this version. You probably heard a better "Uncompressed" version a month ago at nowhereradio. Thanks for weighing in and I hope the Holidays are good to you!:)

Kramer.... that's the first thing I've ever heard from you. Sounds very good. You have a great voice and the guitar playing was very smooth. Great job but I must confess.... I've never heard the original.

Ah, Georgia. I lived in Atlanta for a while when I was a teenager. Its where I learned to play guitar. Still have a couple of friends there. I remember a band called the Candymen, who I believe turned into the Atlanta Rhythm Section later on--at least some of them. They were incredible.

Georgia shaped my music and me. I've been gone for many years but like the songs says, "just an old sweet song keeps Georgia on my mind"

Wow Kramer,

I thought if I hung around long enough I would hear you post something.
Always loved this tune and your rendition does it justice.

Nice clean Gits and really nice vox.
You been holdin' out on us!

Nice job..........Really Nice!

Ga is a pretty unique place to live.I wouldnt wanna be anywhere else except maybe on the beach in Florida.A few of the guys in ARS were in The Candymen(that was a backing group for Roy Orbison I believe). They were singer Rodney Justo, keyboardist Dean Daughtry and drummer Robert Nix.Guitarist Barry Bailey and bassist Paul Goddard joined them also.Justo was only on the first album and during the process of recording that first Album Ronnie Hammond was working in the studio as an assistant engineer for Rodney Mills.Justo decied to go solo and Hammond got the lead vocal job on the spot.

Buddy Buie and J.R. Cobb had been part of the group the Classics IV and they are responsible for recruiting the others in the Candymen to form ARS.All of them are pros when it comes to working in the studio.

ARS is not known as a mega group but they do have a lot of hits and are one of my all time favorite groups. They chose to write more along radio pop lines than to take the traditional southern rock route that most bands were taking at the time from this area of the country.I got to meet Ronnie Hammond in 1994 when we opened up for them in my hometown. He's a real down to earth kind of guy. That was definetly cool meeting him.

Hey Kramer.........in the early to mid 70's, I lived in Macon and Lagrange. I was playing with a band from Maryland and the guitarist ( Gregg Wright ) somehow got to be buddies with the Allmans. So all of us were in on it. Macon was a magical place at that time. Capricorn was a major force in music and you wouldn't believe the big namers that were passing through just to party. Ahhhh....good times....good times. Especially Sylvia. But that's best left for another thread. :)

bump :)

Dats cool Lt . did you ever run into a cat named Paul Hornsby while you were hanging around there? He is from down here in redneckville too. He did the pianos for the tucker band.
Dean Daughtry is from about 12 miles down a 1/2 road from me, he played pinanny for the rythym section. Im sure you been to the carousel..

Kramer, 'love ya man, I wont jump your thread no more :) :)

Finally,I get to hear a song by the great Kman!
Now I can rest easy!:D

Man,your vocals are outstanding, sounds like I'm listening to the real thing, but better!
Great gits.
Man,you gotta post more stuff K.
Fantastic job,you totally rocked me out!

Fine work,I really enjoyed it,thanks!

Have a great holiday Kramer,
Pete

Been meaning to hear this one...

Wow man...this is really good. To be honest my ears are fried and I'm all critiqued out from mixing my own crappy song and beating Sam up for his subterranean march of axes. I just wanted to listen, and I'm glad I did. This is a well constructed tune and I like the melodies and parts. If I thought there was anything really wrong with it, I'd tell ya. Good job! Glad to see ya posting.

-edit- Oh ya...extremely nice singing. You have a fantastic voice! I'm going to bed now...good night :)

Fantastic!!!

K-man
I am REALLY diggin this. I am not as critical as most so I dont find any problems on the first listen. I always go with the groove and feel of the song, much as my name sake did in his day. If it sounds good and feels good I'll leave a mistake or two in there. This is great. Sounds like the late 70's FM radio, but then again that is where the original came from. I am gonna quit talking now so I can give it another spin because this is...I mean its...uh...I LOVE IT!!!
