What do you mean? like what kind of music im making? or like idk...what you mean?

like are you going to plug guitars in, mic the amp, plug through a guitar head.

is that the only mic you have

and ya what kind of music, guitars specifically. that would affect my opinion.

for instance, matching a really crunchy metal sound on free software is hard.... impossible lol, so i would mic the amp, but with a dif mi than you have.

i have a condenser mic that mics up music on my amp ... and i could get my fast track pro to work i use guitar rig. My band is most like a day to remember http://myspace.com/adaytoremember im the lead guitar player of my band :) but our formation of recording is using ezdrummer to play what we think will go good with guitars then play that while were playing guitar then we head to vocals...but we dont have a singer so right now were doing demos to find a singer :) if that makes sense

Man, you were smart enough not to post this in something besides the Newbie forum, so you're cool. Spoon feeding is what this one's for. Good luck, and once you start getting some mixes together, check out the mp3 mixing clinic for some awesome advice and info.

Aye bud :)
I figured out the problem...
Also before you go off on me haha
for some reason it wont let me download adobe reader .... so i cant read the manual.
But i figured out that the condenser mic had to be right up close and personal with the amplifier to get sound haha xD and now it has waves when i record....but now i cant listen to what i played :( Once ive figured that out... i think i can figure the rest from there

ya idk what kina result you're gona get from micing the amp with that mic.

traditionally when you use a mic on an amp its a dynamic. i like to use an SM57. it's inexpensive and god quality, industry standard for 100 bucks is a no brainer buy. if you're thinking of continuing with recording i'd get one.

Yeah omg im getting SEXY results with my mic....but the only way i hear it is if i mix down my recording to listen to it

what thing?? jus monitor the tracks in the software you should be able to hear it on headphones

dude, if you're using ASIO as your driver then something just not set right within it or kristal and that's why you're not able to hear it on playback... the same problems your having sound like the ones i had when i started venturing into recording on a pc starting out with Audition and Reaper... digital audio in, audio in, usb in, audio out, digital out, usb out, sooooo confusing (at first).... just keep tinkering and you'll figure out the combination to do both. if i were sitting in the same room it'd be a lot easier to give advice but since i'm not,... g'luck!

ya idk i use Logic pro 8 on a Macbook pro. logic pro is very simple. music is the reason i love macs.

i got started playing drums, then started getting into hip hop beats on Reason

then got into recording more when i got a mac with garage band. then steping up and recording full projects and bought logic pro.

its just the natural progression you go from one to bigger and better stuff

meee tooo, i needs help!!!

i need to know what i dont have that i need
so heres everything

i have a tascam dp-01 8trk (for recording my drums at a separate location)
a line6 pod for guitar
a roland spd-s
a M-audio Axiom 49
a hp 64bit vista pc with just a line in, firewire ports and usb
and im using the tascam as the interface using the line out to my comp
i have 3-1/4'' cables and 1 m to f xlr
no midi cables
no midi interface

im trying to build songs for scratch tracks to practice to
as well as make beats and engineer music
but i cant get it all together
what do i need???
and i know i need midi, but what?
and when i get it, how do i use it?

i play the instruments, i need to be able to record them too

your computer prolly doesn't have a sound card

you need a USB or Fire Wire interface depending on what ports your comp has

plug the mixer output into the input of the interface then usb to the comp

Hey man i got it all to work, sorry for the late replies.
I bought Mixcraft and i couldnt hear sound because i needed a headphone adapter so...Now my ONE question that i absolutely need...
when i record something and put it in guitar rig....how do i save the sound from guitar rig when i added effects and such......i spent like 4 hrs reading the manual ...and nothing.... prolly an hour of trying to find a save music button or something. maybe its not in the manual cause im such a newb and its obvious..but i tell u what its pretty annoying cause it sounds great....then you try to save it, its like awwwww :( what the hell.

ya i'm not as familiar with PC's but the recording techniques are the same

for instance my comp has a sound card/ interface built in. i still use an Alesis interface cuz it has real preamps.

but i love recording to logic. as far as saving tracks do you jus mean saving the song so u can come back to it. or saving the rig as a template so you don't need to find everything next time.

ahhh..man now i want a mac...it sounds great...but i invested alot of money into my pc ...cant do much about it :( but the pc version of garage band is mixcraft (in my eyes) it works GREAT :)

And the guitar rig thing..
i load, like, me playing guitar and i select a preset i like and i cant save the file with the preset on it to sound like the preset when i save it :( If that made any sense to you .... if it does you deserve a medal haha cause thats the only way i can explain it...and its not a technical problem sooo its not that
