I'm sure you've heard it before, but I'm looking for cheap condensors

that set of joe meek jm27's looks interesting, anybody have any comparison feedback against other condensors in the price range that have been mentioned? I did a little searching and it seems like the general concensus is pretty positive on them.

Hi, If you want Info on Building your Own Condencor Mics You can Find most of the Info on this Site:

http://www.prosoundweb.com/recording/tapeop/buildmic/buildmic_16_1.shtml

And you can order a Bunch of Different Types of Condencor Elements from here:

http://www.jlielectronics.com/prod3.htm

I am Going to Order about 30 Elements (they are Very Cheap, from $1 each to $7 but the Cheaper ones have a Better Frequency responce) and they also Have Large Diaphram Condencor Elements and even Dynamic Elements for Building Dynamic Mics so you can build your Own SM57 if you wanted....

When your Looking for elements look for the Ones with the Flattest Frequency responce and Widest Frequency Range and a Higher SNR is also good unless you are wanting to Build mics that only capture certain feequencies.....

The Instructions Call for a 9v Battery which is a Bit overkill as you anly need about 3v so 2 or 3 Watch batteries is a Better Idea especially if you are trying to Fit everything in a small space (An old Flashlight would Make a Good Mic Body?)....

Well good Luck and if you need any Help let me know....

Cheers

They are caps from a pen.

Not to many options in the $100 for 2 range.
I have compared then with my set of Behringer ECM8000's
The Behringers had a muddy low end. They picked up a lot of room but thay are omni's. But usable, most of the low end would be cut out in mix-down.

I also have a set of Oktava MC-012's and I like the Joe Meeks better. That's just me.

Modding of the C2

The C2 is probably just a Transsound electret capsule. Here's how I opened it up:

1) Threw away the original circuit. Well, it's laying around anyway.
2) Made a simple FET impedance converter circuit
3) Used high-quality capacitors
4) Used a high-quality stepdown transformer with a center tap secondary for providing phantom

Now it sounds nice. Unfortunately it didn't fit in the old housing, so...
