Hi all - I bought a Univox (labelled Raven for Canadian import) Coily 335 copy today that is totally stock and in beautiful condition, but it's missing the whammy bar. The tailpiece is intact - only the bar itself is missing.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start looking? I plan to call local music stores of course, but if anyone has a site they can recommend for this kind of thing I'd appreciate it. A vintage piece would be nice, but as long as it's functional and fits that's the main thing.

Or maybe someone has one lying around.....

Thanks kindly :)

You might try StewMac, Warmoth or even do a search on Ebay. I think I bought one from an on-line store once and another one off of Ebay. They're fairly cheap - I'm thinking like $20 or less for either new or used.

The hard part might be finding one that fits the style of your guitar. But if you don't need an exact replica, then you sould be ok.

Thanks! I'll try those sites. Currently there's nothing on eBay, but fortunately I'm in no hurry. It also occurred to me to see if there's a Bigsby arm that will fit. On the univox site they indicate that it's a 'Bigsby-style tremolo' but I'm not sure exactly what that means. Maybe I'll get lucky.

are you talking about a Gibson ES-335 arch top copy?
how about a pic?
here is a Bigsby at the bay
just the arm will probably will be hard item to find without buying the whole tremelo tail piece.

I could make you one but it will cost you more than just buying the Bigsby
and that is a good deal BTW. Just wait about 1 minuite before bidding closes b4 entering your bid;)
you will have a better chance of winning the bid.

EDIT: I found this arm at WD Music
but IDK if it will fit your tail piece:confused:
better off just buying the Bigsby at the bay that way if the arm dont fit you can change out the whole tail piece.
sorry I cannot help more.
BTW those 335's are some sweet players.

Most stores that sell Bigsby vibratos also sell replacement parts for them. When the information you found indicated "Bigsby-style vibrato," it could mean 'Bigsby licensed.' If this is a copy of a real ES-335, it's entirely possible the Bigsby is a copy of whatever model Gibson used. That might lead you to which replacement parts for your Univox, or even which Bigsby model to buy, if it needs completely replaced.

Thanks for the help!

I appreciate that guys - I was thinking that a Bigsby arm might fit. I'd like to keep the tailpiece she came with, if possible, at least for now. If I decide to get into some mods I'll probably go all out, but for now I'll try and find the arm.

And you're right, Roquetitan, it plays beautifully. The sound is not quite as 'woody' as I expected it to be, but I'm not disappointed either. Much more crisp and clean than I expected.

Sometime during the '70s I had one of the green ones (mine is the orange sunburst). If I remember there was something significant wrong with it, so I didn't keep it long. But I always thought it had one of the most beautiful finishes ever, to my eye. I'm going to try and attach a pic - we'll see how that goes....

It looks like that Bigsby arm might just do the trick.

Thanks again!

Thanks for everyone's help. I'm sure now it won't be a big issue getting something that works. Hopefully I can return the help someday.
