Im Friends with nick the man and I am using

1 Behringer MX3282A
2 sm 57s
2 oktava MC012
1 CAD 7 piece drum mic kit
1 behinger 2 channel 31 band eq
1 dbx compressor expander
1 sonic maximizer
1 lexicon omega
1 audio technica 3035
im just starting and im trying to buy decent quality so in the near future i dont hate my self for buying junk, i buy all my stuff ussualy from GC and i know 2 guys there who ussualy help me with my purchases, im just looking for more information

Looks like you're off to a good start. Personally I wouldn't find much use for the Sonic Maximiser or the 31 band EQ though. Do you have recording device yet?

Your mics are fine. The other gear is OK too. You can probably live without the graphic EQ. Also you don't really need a ton of mics for drums, the kick from the CAD kit plus a 57 and the 012s might be enough. But feel free to use more if you like.

Do you have monitors? That would be your next step.

You should be able to do some decent stuff with that. Sure, I could say get a nice pre or a better LDC, but there's no reason why you can't do decent stuff with what's there. The first advice that comes to mind is lay off the sonic maximizer. Not that it can't be used, but I hope your ear doesn't come to learn that sonic maximizer is a good thing...

my recording device

the lexicon omega is a usb interface with 2 mic 4 min in 2 midi

sm57

the oktava are for the overhead drum mics the CAD dont sound as good the sm57 are for micing guitar

sonic maximizer

was a gift from christmas
i want to soon get monitors and a nice pre amp maybe a tube preamp
maybe a few mics just for micing guitar and bass whats a good mic for that
and what a good set of monitors that are really good but not out of this world priced maybe something like 500 dollars for a set at the most

You really need to work on your writting skills. It's really hard to read this shit. Use some punctuation for God's sake. Are you in that big of a hurry or is it cool to appear illiterate?

hey

you misspelled Writing

and I write like that because thats how I'm "thinking" it when it comes out

You mean you don't think in complete sentences? :D

You've already got one of the most commonly used and highly recommended mics for micing guitar cabs... the SM57. Unless you're planning on recording a band live, you're good to go for now.

I would say your mics are good, invest in some monitors, GOOD software and plugins, ditch the EQ and maximizer, and possibly look into a used soundcraft board and sell the behringer.

yeah get rid of the sonic maximizer i used to have one until i had enough balls to return it and get better stuff

how good is

how good is sound craft never heard of them?

whats wrong with my behringer?

whats wrong with the sonic maximizer?
its good once in a while plus i got it for a gift(really can't sell it)

The eq i got cheap i got a behringer FBQ3102 Ultragraph PRO EQ
for 99.00 it was a good deal and can some usefull

Plus if i sell it i can see me needing it somewhere just for the littlest problem and ill hate myslef for selling it (so might as well just keep it and live with it, it may come useful in the future)

nick

You just heard that you dont have any expierence with you rmaximizer

yeah but it makes sense.. if you would just listen to me! if you need that sonic maximizer to correct your sound or make it sound fuller or whatever then something is wrong with your sound.. it shouldn't be that way. your using a "crutch" plus if you ever try to EQ a sonic maximizer it would get all fucked up because thats what a maximizer does in the first place ... it messes with EQs

so

yes but when ur not using the sonic maximizer i can use the eq

you were only

you dont have any expierence with that you were only told that. I want to have a little expierence with it so if they are not worth it then i'll sell them
