Im getting a new cymbol for christmas

ive got a pretty new gretsh set

and for cymbols right now i have

all zildjian A customs

ive got 13" 33 cm hi hat

16" 40 cm crash

and 22" 56 cm medium ride

I was wondering what other crash or ride cymbol i should add to the set I was thinking another crash but what kind and why not a ride and if a ride what kind of ride someone please help me because I am just a self taught drummer that doesnt know the diffrence between all those sizes and stuff
 
I would get an 18 inch crash. Not to many people have 2 rides. What style of music do you play?

Ied either go for that 18 inch crash, or ied get a 6 or 8 inch splash. You could also get a China cymbal, All depends on what kind of sound your looking for.

A cowbell will fit any style though.
 
Or depending on ur budget, u can get a ZIldjian splash and a Wuhan China cymbal. WUhans are very inconsistent, so u wud need to go to a store to find the one that sounds best... for example, i tried out 8 different wuhan chyinas and they all sounded very different, and only 3 sounded decent... oen sounded really good. I dunno how much ZIldjian splashes are, but I know that Paiste splashes are around $130, and zildjian is cheaper, so the splashes should be less expensive. As for the china, an 18" Wuhan would cost you $50. So 2 cymbals for $150... but remember, these are effect cymbals. If you want more traditional cymbals, go with an 18" crash.
 
I would go with an 18" medium or medium-thin A from Zildjian since that is the brand you like.

You should definatley check out the nice A Customs. I looove the finish, so flashy and bright! They sound somewhat "brighter" that A's. They may not be your style, just depends.
An 18 in crash would fit well in your setup. 16" and 18" crashes are basically the standard cymbals found on kits. Heck, I have two 16's and and 18. I'm looking at adding a 14" A Custom Fast Crash....it is so sweet. Perfect for quick accenting.
 
If you want another ride then I would go with a crash/ride but thats more for Jazz.
I agree with Mr.Brown in getting a med.thin or even a thin A.(not custom)
But dont listen to me ....I've been trying to match a 16" med thin.with different 18"s!
Maybe one of these years. :D
 
Another option is a 20" crash...I know it's not Zildjian A custom, but my Sabian Paragon 20" crash is PHENOMINAL...and everybody I've ever played with has loved it.

If you don't have a huge budget, or want more cymbals for you're money, try the Stagg DH series. Check out a review here. They are difficult to find though.
 
piccollo snare

would a piccolo snare sound good on my set

If you play lightly they are great cause they give a big sound with little effort, i think.
 
piccolo's are great, and fun to play. However, I find if you use it very much, others get pretty tired of it. My first piccolo, a old, early-eighties Pearl piccolo, still had that sweet "crrraaaaaaack". They make awesome aux. snares for rock and jazz fusion type stuff. In some cases they can be primary snares; pop, funk, etc.

Thats the thing about drumming. The more you add to your setup, the beter you must become about "spreading everything out". To utilize a full setup, you have to know how to use it and when. If you've got 6 crashes, 2 rides, 8 splashes ,and 4 chinas....you better know how to play them all in a way that complements the music.

the A custom cymbals sound "small" to me. my cousin's A thin crash sounds better to me than my friend's A Customs. To me the A custom doesn't sound that great unless you really lay into it i guess. the 16" crash sounded too small. so in your case, maybe go up to an 18" crash. My friend's kit has pretty much the same cymbals as the ones you have, 16" crash, 22" ride, and 13" hats, but he also has a 10" splash which i think is the best sounding out of the bunch. so maybe check out the A Custom splash also.
