Well, it all comes down to what you want to be...a bedroom and small gig player or a popular band. We want to be popular and we take the means to do it. Where we are different than others is in the music we play, but the sound and mix has to be competitive,

As I said, it doesn't surprise me at all.

Here's what I think he means:

At one point in time, a band called Quiet Riot had the number 1 selling record in America. Now consider that Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" never hit #1 on the charts. One of these records continues to sell and to bring in a steady income stream large enough so that the band members will be rich for the rest of their (and their future generations') lives. The other is still kind of a running joke, and might still be playing the Dokken or "Great White" circuit.

I believe that if you want to be the next Quiet Riot, then do what everyone else is doing. Layer on the cheesy drum samples and whatever else you want to do to your heart's content. On the other hand, if you want to be the next Pink Floyd, the Who, Led Zep, etc. ... then just be true to your music and your sound.

Well, the audiance has changed too. We are not in the 70's anymore. Today's artists are successful for one or two years - maybe five if very popular then they become anonymous. People like change and this is the way the game is played.

I am aware of that and this is why I have studied to have a job once success has passed away. A musical carreer is very short these days, but the thrill of being to the top for a while motivates me and my band. You just have to be conscious of that.
