So I was in the middle of the nasty storm on Thu/Fri...and managed NOT to lose power (only blinked a few times).
But since yesterday, my power has gone off/on 4 times already!
I know they are working on power as a lot of folks are still out...but I wish they would stop turning it off/on. Luckily, I have a relay in the studio that prevents the power from coming on after it cuts out...that way I don't get those pops and power hits, even though I have my protection and voltage regulation.

I get my studio all powered up and I j-u-s-t get ready to start working...and off goes the power again!!!

Now it's back on...I'll give it one more try.
And as I'm typing this...it just blinked again! So now I don't know if I should even bother going to my studio..... :(

I think it's catching. I've just emerged from a blackout when I was in the middle of comping...

Comiserations :)

I have three words for you: Uninterruptible power supply:

http://shopping.yahoo.com/p:APC Back-UPS XS 1300 LCD:1994736553;_ylt=Au_oW3SH3IMdRkDeJsPx8edMsMUu

You may not be able to run your system on it, but it will give you the time to shut down without losing audio data or complete a download.-Richie

Yeah...that works fine for my DAW, but I have a console, a whole bunch of rack gear, a row of guitar amps, organ, electric piano...etc...etc...so a UPS isn't going to work for that. :D
Not to mention...there are only certain (more expensive) UPS units you would want to use on audio components (computers don't count) as the less expensive stuff doesn't generate pure sinusoidal AC waves...so you could get AC noise, plus...it's not the concern about saving data...I got that covered...
…it's the loss power for hours at a time that's a bitch!!! :)
Can't work for hours and hours on a UPS.

I actually have a 15kW permanent generator for my house...but I didn't bother feeding my studio with it.
I could, but then the damn thing is too loud, and you can hear it inside enough that it wouldn't do for recording. The generator was mainly for survival purposes.
If I was going to have one for the studio, like if I had a busy commercial studio...then that would be a different thing.
Mainly I’m pissed ‘cuz I was working on some new tracks, and got part way through some recording during the storm on Thu/Fri...and then I figured I would have no problem working throughout the weekend AFTER the storm...but it’s been off/on/off/on/off/on Sat and today.
Well, it’s been calm since my initial post, there was just one blink since, but it didn’t go out, and my studio voltage regulators can handle quick power blips or even low power issues…up to a point.

There are still a lot of folks in the here in the lower NY Hudson Valley area that will not have power until tomorrow night according to the repair estimates. :(
