if i already have an RE20, is there any point in having a shure beta 52a?

lol, my usual long title says it all.

I really liked the sound of my RE20 on kick drum and cello....

should i keep my shure beta52a (havent tried it on either of those above yet) or just sell it (with case for 100 bucks)?

The best reason to keep it is to use it on kick if you need to use the RE20 for something else. But- (especially if you record a lot of cello and double bass), I'd replace it with an AKG D112, but that's just me.-Richie

I say keep the Shure Beta52a unless you really need the cash.

I prefer the RE20 (and the D112) on kick in most cases but every now and then the hollowed-out, V-curve, basket-ball sound of the Beta 52 ends up being just right for kick.

That would be reason enough for me to punt it. Don't be a mic nanny, offload what you don't need.

Saying that, I'd have the RE20 on the bass cab and the 52 on the kick if I owned both

Beta52 is my favorite kick mic, so I would absolutely keep that.

Ive never heard an re20 on a bass drum...I dont make it a common practice to mic a bass cab instead of all the better direct in options there are.

If it works for you...Id go with it.
