What a great "stimulant" for this clinic, & the group. We had guys recording sh*t that don't really ever do that.

Why don't we do this on a regular basis? You know... monthly, or bi-monthly? That way it wouldn't dominate the clinic, but would keep the place uh... 'invogorated'... like it is now?

What say? Hear? Hear hear? The 5th of each month? Every other month? What say ye?

I dunno dude... I think it was a great idea... but I can't keep up with half the stuff that's up here now... and I've got DSL.. just think how far behind the Dial-Up people must be... :p

I think maybe we should brainstorm and think of new and different ideas (like the 1.5 thing) that we can propose every couple months or so.. just to keep the creative juices flowin'...

Great idea. It could even be on a changing theme. Like either a style of music or a particular cover that entries would put their own spin on or whatever. Either way it's a healthy exercize, not to mention a blast.

I've thought of a few new challenges for the future.

•One is the 2.0 song
•How about everyone does their own cover of the same familiar song?
•Alternate to that would be we do a tribute album to maybe Hendrix, Dylan, etc) where each guy does his own cover of said artists tune.
•Song recorded entirely with one mic choice.
•Homerecording unplugged!
•How about this--someone posts an acoustic/vocal track. We each produce it as we'd like. Or even re-do the song completely.

OK, stop me, please! We're gonna need MP3 Mixing Clinic II if this stuff keeps up!

Hey Chad,
.....yeah, Im in!!... I like the idea of a changing criteria to keep things interesting..... but, every couple of months would be enough for me... Im one of the unfortunates w/ dial-up..... .....and as fun as this was..... I pissed my wife off plenty:D

.....maybe next time.... March'ish?? ....we could do everyones 1.5 hr take on the heaviest shit that they can conjure.....

......imagine that..... "heavy" tunes by Crawdad, Chris, Lt. Bob (I still wanna hear the Grinch man....), ....Erland ....etc.:D Im not gonna even try to imagine what the "heaviest" shit by Sam and Cranky sounds like.:D

..........pile on the guits:D :D

On a similar vein, another recording website I hang out on has done compilation CD's doing various challenges. A few that we have done are:

1 - Free for all... whatever you want
2 - Collaboration challenge
3 - Acoustic challenge... all sounds must originally be non-electric. But you could sample and effect those sounds all you wanted.
4 - Cavernous rock... hard and heavy tunes only.. or at least what you concerned hard and heavy.
5 - Live... not necessarily a gig.. but one take..no overdubs.
6 - Cover Me... cover tunes. the original idea was to cover the tunes NOT in their original style.
7 - Deja Vu... we voted on a set of lyrics and then everybody wrote music to them. this was actually one of the better ones.
8 - Beatles Tribute... songs from and inspired by the Fab 4

Anywho, maybe if we took it outside the clinic and did CD releases instead. Maybe 4 or 5 a year. Everybody pays $5 to cover costs. Or maybe create a NWR page for each challenge and then do the reviews at NWR instead of in the clinic?

These are all cool ideas!

Elaborate on how you did the CD releases. Seems like if we tried that here, each one would have to be a quadruple album box set, judging from the 1.5 frenzy.

Yeah... this is what I'm talkin' aboot. If we just do a "1.5" every month, it'll get a little old.

Keep the ideas comin'... the only thing we have to do now is decide which one to do first.

YEAH, these ideas are the best way to learn and grow in music!!

well, I'm game. You could possible do a different thing each month and you have to say the tune you post is for the idea. That way if someone has more tunes to post in a given month, only one will be for the idea. Ex: Feb. , this is my official 2.0 tune,
March , this my official whatever tune. Of course this is after the list of ideas is official. Maybe we could have 12 ideas, or 10, if it takes us that long to get down a list.

My only gripe at this point would be the cover song stuff, or the album tribute. Some of us don't do much as to cover tunes. If I have a vote for the ideas, it would be that the tunes should be original, and recorded by the homerecordist. What I'm saying is maybe I don't have the talent to do cover tunes justice. Anyway, original stuff is what seems to come out best in the clinic.

I think we should do something like make our wives or girlfriends sing or play something on a song. I have dial up sooo that might take a while-lol... Just an idea. We could come up with something different every month. I like most of the ideas so far.....
Myx

Great ideas. One more nagging idea that's hard to let go of:

Covering other clinic member's stuff. Problem would be: not enough options? Or not enough people could contribute. Plus, we'd all want a piece of SLuiCe & Sammy's stuff :D

Or maybe just leave a "covers" challenge open to this.

I agree entirely ... as one who has limited downloads and lives in a totally different time zone I've found the whole saga pritty frustrating.... only cause I can't really join in :(

If you want ideas how about a homerecording 'choir'. Pick some tune and universally acceptable lyrics... then get as many people as possible to add their own vocal... kinda like those charity/Aid songs we use to see by all the famous people. Try and reach some new record for most collaborators on a collaboration ?

My 2 cents

personally, the things that have been mentioned that grappbed my opinion were:

1. tribute CD of songs written by one particular artist or group.

2. tributes to other members of the clinic.

3. collaboration: someone submits a very basic song, just a chord progression and lyrics (with melody) and each of us attempt to add parts to it and produce and we can all see what everyone's interpretations would be.

4. each of us takes a song that is nowhere near the style that we normally do and cover it in our own style... OR we take a song that IS the type of thing that we normally play, and produce a cover version in a different style... for instance, i'm into punk rock... so i could either take a garth brooks song and play it like blink 182 would... or i could take a blink 182 song and play it the way garth would...

those are my suggestions

but i'm in for anything.

i think we should have a deadline this time though... so it all comes down to one day and we can all be here at zero-hour....

Absolutely...I tried 3 times to do the 1.5 and I suck.If I could have an excuse to do it every month I might finally do it.it's good for new members too.

oh boy, this stuff would be great!!!!!!!

hey W.I.S.C!!!!! hook me up with a link to your tune's!! i thought i saw some awhile back. i just to tired to search anymore:confused:

i HAVE A GREAT IDEA.....each one of you...(man this will be great)...each one of you download a song of mine off my site....(this will rock!!)....and se HOW GOOD you can make it sound?!?!?!...thats golden right...???.....and if you REALLY get into it and want them ...ill even send you the WAV. FILES!!!and you can really get to it!!....

man this will be great
jamal...........

ok that was a joke.....like you could improve on my freaking production skills......puhlease!
