Yeah, I know. Okay, the homeschool stereotype is extremely conservative, religious, anti-music anti-opposite sex with an 8 PM bedtime. I know only one person like this, and he's terrifying. The average is religious and moral and conservative, but can function in normal society.

Well that was the early stereotype, and it may have been somewhat accurate. But it's caught on in a much larger set now. One time that probably is valid is that homeschool kids are likely to be more intelligent than the average public school kids, because intelligence is hereditary, and to put it bluntly, stupid parents aren't likely to homeschool  Which is a good thing.

It also varies a lot by area. Up in the DC area it's very common. Down here much less so, because the schools are smaller and very well funded, active parents, etc. The only kid I know of here is homeschooled so she can spend more time focused on dance, she aspires to be a professional ballerina and from what I've seen, has a fair shot at the big time.

Most kids here would rather be professional surfers

Well, you write a lot better than they average 17 yr high school student. Here's to home schooling.

It's pretty common where I am (South-Central PA) because the school system simply sucks (hurrah for alliteration!). Plus we're the buckle of the Bible Belt. A lot of the people around here homeschool because they don't want their kids to be 'polluted by secular people.'

Well, thank you!

Hi, Mulefan. Let's start over.

My name's chris, and let's face it...humor is a lot easier to spot when it's actually funny, right? Mine wasn't remotely funny unless you happen to have had the great displeasure to "know" me for awhile,...and even then, it's not all that funny.

And I do work on trying to be less of an asshole, but I don't really work hard enough at it. My problem's not so much one of being bitter and angry, because I'm really not...my problem is that I'm really really arrogant. It's pointed out to me a lot, and I usually agree. Anyway, most people here are cooler, so enjoy the place!!

Hey Chris- actually yer post WAS pretty funny when taken in proper context!
But I was ready to battle with whoever was actin' that "high and mighty"!! And arrogant, an attorney? It's unprecedented! :)
This is a cool place. I've learned a LOT over in the Analog Only forum. I'm pretty much old-school. Tascam 388 as my main recorder. I just gotta get used to these basically un-moderated forums where the swearin' and insultin' fly pretty hot and heavy sometimes. And as far as the Variax goes, whatever makes yer gigging life easier, the better. Of course.

Later- Steve Z.

Well, I have SOME idea... a piezo'd acoustic guitar will cut through concrete due to the exceedingly harsh nature of a piezo (:D) - The vax has to be louder than you think it needs to be in order to have the same apparent volume...I have no idea if other modelling technology has similarly warm goodness that requires more volume to be heard, lol.

You're in Texas, right? Do you know Monte Montgomery? I wonder what he uses in that Alvarez for amplification? I love his tone and playing style. One of the best ever for my money. Do you consider his tone too harsh? I know it's not a real traditional acoustic sound, but he gets tons of volume w/o feedback.

I really like Monte a lot. Great player. You're right, it's not a real traditional acoustic sound, and a lot of the time, it's not an acoustic sound at all...it's just flat out smooth distortion. Here's the thing about this Variax...with it, I can get Monte's tone...but he can't get mine. The fact that the Vax is an electric guitar is really a great benefit to me, because I play a lot of distorted acoustic stuff too. Of couse, no matter what Monte plays, he'll sound great...I can't say that about me.

Chris Harris really does fucking rule. Anybody doubting this needs to dig up his old "Fuck You" song to discover what music should really sound like. His kid also sings better than anybody you've ever heard. I heart Chris Harris. :)

So,now it's "the vax"?

Hahaha. I'm not just starting off playing, I'm relatively new to recording.

Dude, I was not trying to put you down by saying your just starting. Your 17. Trust me, when you are my age and look back at 17 your gonna realize that you are just starting. Nothing wrong with that at all. ;)

Isn't that an old mainframe computer?

Yep. Apparently I can't enter a message under ten characters, so I'm typing an extra sentence.

Just type "Yep" followed by six spaces, then a period.

Oh. But that would've made sense, which apparently isn't legal in York County.

So,now it's "the vax"?

Yeah...I was gonna' shorten it to "V-Ax," but that has some problems. One, it's not shaped live a V, and secondly...I'm afraid the brighter among us like you, Shep, would start calling it a "Virtual Guitar,"... So now I've shortened it to "Vax," which hardly does anything to fulfill the 10 character limit, but has a nice ring to it.

Oh, and for what it's worth...I'm still pissed at the little 4 year old Korean who had to do the soldering on this guitar. THIS guitar is not reliable...yet;

But to Line6's credit, they're replacing all 6 of the piezos, even the ones that haven't had any problems. I gotta' put the bad in with the good...the TWO guitars they sent me had issues, so that shakes my confidence in the product a ton. But gawd they do sound good.

Why do I keep reading this thread?

Because you are considering purchasing an A-Vax. Yeah, that's the word to go with right there. Like "A-Hole," only it's "A-Vax." That's sweet.

Reconsidering because of the build quality?

So....I guess you expect everyone to say, "Hey, Chris! Thanks for the wonderful, detaled, informative post! You are my hero!"

Hey, Chris, thanks for the great post, you fucking egomaniac! :D
Some asshole gave me an anonymous red chicklet for this post, not that it matters.

To that asshole, I would say: Take the allowance your mommy gives you and go buy a sense of humor.

I would also say: Be enough of a man or woman to sign your name, you sniveling coward.

That is all!
