Sorry Chris,
I can't get passed the digital distortion/press here for generic metal guitar sound.
Apart from that the bit I did listen to sounded OK.
Cheers

Haha. Digital distortion? I'll take another listen here at work, maybe I was half asleep while mixing last night? No, I'm not hearing any... Any specific spot you're talking about?

As for generic metal guitar sound, I guess they need to change their sound in your opinion.

Chris,
By digital Distortion I meant the generic gtr sound which, yeah, they should VARY at least. What's with bands now - plug & play or something?
Cheers

My two cents -

Yep, guitar tone sounds pretty bad, and it's leaning pretty bad to the left, as well as the timing gets pretty bad in spots. Not a very tight performance on the bands part overall.

Hope that helps.....

I know about the timing being off, but the tone in general? I know it's generic chugga hardcore, but I didn't think they sounded terrible.

Anyway, the guys seem to think the guitar tone is good, and I guess satisfying the customer is always a good thing.

Any comments on the mix? Too much reverb on the snare? Too much kick? General opinions on something other than the band's sound? Haha.

I'd like less mud and more bite......I think the timing issues are also causing it to sound more "blurred" as well - it just seems to lack any sort of definition. I think 95% of it is the band though.

Yeah, I was talking to a friend about it last night, they hit the first two times through together and then the last two they're off, maybe I'll try cutting and nudging and getting them inline and just fill the gap with something. Haha.

Less mud and more bite in the guitars?

I think it's a decent heavy guitar sound but it's slightly off intonation wise and this whole mix is off balance.. cut some low end and add a little more bright to the guitars.. the guitars seem too low until the extra chunky part.. might be something going on with how they're compressed.. there are some timing issues that would have been noticed less if the guitar was more in my face.. tightened and fixed/finished this would be good..

I disagree.. good or bad it doesn't sound 'generic' to me..

Thanks for the response.

I have the guitars both rolled off up to 150. The only compression I have on them is in the guitar bus with a W1 limited pulled down to -1.5db. I'll fix the balance (too much guitar on the left). I wonder if rolling off more of the guitars will effect the chuggs during the heavy parts. The ending part with the chuggs and kick drum sound like pretty much what I'm going after, but maybe I should automate some EQ for the non heavy parts?
