I think I'm clipping???

I do my multi tracking in Vegas Audio. I try to track as hot as possible without clipping. My gain structure is good. When tracking vocals I leave a good amount of headroom through my preamp and then apply 3:1 compression going into my delta 1010 input set to +4 dbs.

My problem is while monitoring my meters in vegas I will hit up to say -0.5 dbs and when I listen to the recording back in vegas I don't here any clipping. But then If I open that same wav in wavelab I here clipping and when I check the peak level it will be zero. Any ideas why this is?

The reason I ask is because some projects i am working on right now I am just doing the production and tracking for. Then I will need to export the files to be mixed and mastered at a different studio. I am worried that these files I export will be clipping.

Isn't the world of uncalibrated levels in software fun? ;)

Try turning it down a bit.

Do induvidual tracks in Wavelab peak? If not, don't worry about it.
