I have a Gretsch broadkaster 7667 or something. New Gretsch's are pretty crappy in my oppinion, ever since fender bought them.

You are definitely in the minority with that opinion. Most Gretschophiles think that things have gotten much better under Fender. More accurate re-issues, better components, better service and support, new signature models...the list goes on and on.

I have a 68' annniversary model. The only problem it has ever had is the body binding. It's the material it was made of . The neck binding is fine. Other than that, it's a sweety. Plays F****in' great! I've had it since about 79' and it's never needed the neck adjusted or anything. The frets are really good on it too, holding up great!!!

"Gretsch is a wierd company. Their vintage stuff is all total crap"

My 64 Country Gentleman shows no sign of any of the maladies I hear others claim. It has served faithfully since 1970 and, for years, was the only guitar I took to the job. Considering it's reliability, I gave it very little care.
Some love the tone, some hate it. I have owned quite a few other quality guitars and still have a few, mainly for tonal variation, but never found anything I'd trade it for. According to Ebay, some are willing to part with three grand to experience what I got for $425.

7 months later I'm back lol.

Seriously, I just wanted to say that I didn't buy that brand new G6128T for 2.5k+tx finally. I was hesitating alot and then my wife convinced me that I should wait a little longer. And she was right!

I just bought a 2001 G6128T on ebay. I can't beleive how nice it plays and how great it looks. On top of that, I only paid 1200$CAN and it's in perfect condition.

I think the guitar is still available to see. Have a look: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33041&item=7348325472

Oh, and I can read made in Japan on the back and the quality is excellent. So fuck the salesman. I'll go back to that store and ask how much he would give me for that guitar, just for fun... I'm curious to know if it's as much of a great deal as I think.

Those pre-FMIC Gretsches are terrific values right now. they are less desirable than the current production Gretsches (and therefore much cheaper), but they are pretty darn close in quality in my opinion... I have 6120 JR from about 2000 or 2001, and from the factory, it had some bad solder on the bridge pickup. Once I got that straightened out, I have been VERY HAPPY with this instrument.

I dunno why somebody would perform that kind of surgery on a guitar like that though. Seriously, if you don't like the Bigsby tailpiece, then trade it in for a guitar that doesn't have a Bigsby. Why cut it up?

How do you like those pickups? I frickin' LOVE those Filtertrons. There's nothing quite like them...

$425 in 1970 is like $3000 now!

kkm1 guy out of nowhere... wtf?

that sounds like what you here late at night on those advertising channels.

I can't speak to the quality of pre-Baldwin Gretsch electrics, but I have a '37 (or thereabouts) acoustic Gretsch that has a phenomenal sound. The irony is that it was probably made by Harmony for Gretsch as a budget mail order line, but it sounds wonderful.

It might be if it was not true. I got my Gretsch from Joel for a lot less than I could find locally. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again.

I owned a re-issue 57 DuoJet and really hated it. I tried all different types of strings and amp combinations. It was just dead sounding to me. I sold it after about 6 months.

I found a reasonably priced 1963 Tennessean. This guitar rocks. It's in mint condition and just sings. No binding problems, etc. Just my 2cents.

You should check out the Gretsch Forum. You will find allot of very knowledgeable musicians there.
