call me a nut but art makes a good tube a/d converter and i also use a tube compressor after my pod going into the mixer. the levelar has been a great tool at only 79.00 at musicians friend. maybe the digital problems are from a sound card that cant give you a high enough bit resolution.

Sorry Darrin, I think the details of this thread have gotten WAY beyond a $200 A/D converter..... now sit quietly and pay attention to SJ2 and Axis!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D

I love this stuff too... Keep going.

How much of this digital harshness can be related to what we're used to, or what we expect from previous observations? And what's the technical difference between the output of cheap and highend stuff? Where does it come from?

Also, I think the reason why we will be stuck at 44.1 kHz for quite a while is in marketing... Most people are happy enough with the quality of CD audio, used to it, and find it more amusing to listen in 5.1 surround, with exagerated bass than plain simple 32bits stereo with more quality than they care for. So that's where the market will focus. That's what the cheap (read mass-production) chips will do, and that's why higher end equipement will stay more expensive (small market-higher production and development cost for companies and consumers).
