i've got a great friend us33 who's giving me excellent, i mean excellent tips online, and many great techniques to perfect my mixes. but i'm still no where near making commercially marketable mixes. well, at least i dont think so. i'm very knowledgable as far as panning goes, and creating a nice pocket for the emcee's vocals. the things i'm looking at are actually probably considered to be more of mastering techniques. like compression rates, EQ frequencies, the whole deal. let me know whats up my expert heads.. pz

Mr. Sol,

Actually, EQ frequencies and compression are very important in the "Mixing" process also. No mastering is going to totally fix a poor mix.

Why don't you start by first listing your equipment and provide a description of what kind of room you're recording and/or mixing in (acoustical treatment, size, etc...). Then post an mp3 of one or two songs, so that we can get a listen. Technique is great, but all of the advice in world will do no good if we can't "hear" what we're giving advice on.

I just saw your thread about your new song, but post your equipment list and description of your recording/mixing location.

I laid down a perfect mastering of my newest choon thursday. 3 db presicion on the eq (meaning that when all parts are fullblown together it's only got a 3 db bigger amplitude than the lowest) .. that meant i don't even have to compress if i don't want to :)

Hey Sol,

I really liked after laughter. I think you definately doing something right!

What are some of the techniques you used on the song. What mic did you use...compression levels, eq, etc.
