Ok get this. Im sitting at my computer, playing tabs off of the net. i take my right hand and move it up to use the mouse, and my bass falls and hits the KEYBOARD. not big deal huh? well i look, and there is like a 1/4maybe 3/8 inch chip taken out of it. i found one half of the chip, is there some way i can put it back on? or buy some thing to fill it? im having a mid life crisis and im only 16! this isnt right. please...please...help me....

Gouges and chips are pretty much a bummer. Nearly anything you do to patch or repair them will just advertise it. Chalk it up as character. However nail polish of an identical color can at least sate the eyes from a mild distance

Thanks, Im just now getting over the shock of it *first accident, first bass* and its not that bad. ive seen worse. in the imfamous words of the black knight. "its only a fleash wound." but ill patch it with the piece i have, then nail polish it. thanks again

i was jammin at a friends house and i didn't have my strap locks on when all the sudden my guitar fell flat on it front and i about shit my pants i was so pissed and worried i had cracked the neck. all i got out of it was a chip in the wood and man that sucks but hey it is a character mark. so don't freak about it..

I had a guitar the other day fall off my guitar rack it hit the concret floor. When i went over right beside it were 2 unusual drum sticks put together in such a way that they looked like half a neck with the truss rod gone. I was so pissed until i realized what they were, i got a couple more scratches on that guitar, it looks like a lumber jacks been at it. I counted about 40 dings, dents, scratches last time i checked.

I don't know why i just said all of that.

to me, the chips/scratches/etc. are like tatoos for the guitar. it's like a little reminder of "that time i dropped by bass while sitting at the computer" or "that time my strap fell off on stage"

I talked to a luthier (spelling) at an acoustic music store (Acoustic Music Revival - Denver, CO) that felt pretty confident he could sufficiently patch something like that. The only other things he said is that it wouldn’t be cheap. Actually he said the $300 acoustic I brought in wasn’t worth it. Luckily were my chip was at I just bought a $6 pick guard and covered it.

Someone who is used to dealing with fine instruments will of course be expensive but they would be more successful at improving the look verses creating a bigger sore thumb.

Now that I think about it you only get a decent guitar ding in the first couple of weeks. Its that whole God/Satan Job deal. Sort of puts things to a new level of humility. I had a guitar, nice solid body LP, in the stand for nearly an hour......
The cat ran in the room at 40 MPH, did some sort of Jackie Chan spinning spring dive off the neck, flopped it out of the stand and onto my brand new steel petal board (the corner of course). The result was an unrepairable quarter inch triangle divot and a declawed cat.

The first always hurts the most

My 6 String Alembic Epic Bass Has fallen about 10 times off of me during shows (due to bad strap locks) Perhaps I should change em eh). Usually when that happens I still have it in my frett hand but still sheesh)

Eddie Van Halen used to throw his guitar without a case into the back of his pickup without a case because it gave it (character).

All of my basses have a little Character the ones that dont collect dust. The one that I like suffer.

Even my Peavy Cirrus is wearing down next to the pickup where I put my thumb. Just check out Billy Sheehan's Fender bass (the one that ALL OF THE FINISH IS WORN OFF DUE TO USE ONE ON BOTH SIDES) talk about character.
