Really? That's a weird thing to use for currency. Now you have to replace the foam.

Alevy, CLICK HERE for about 50 articles on compression.

I'm sorry let me rewrite it for you.( I can't avoid it can I) At least im making progress now .lol

I bought it for 300=I went to my loal guitar center location and PURCHASED the program with approximately $300 in u.s. currency!

When I bought my foam= At the time I PURCHASED a box of auralex foam for my recording booth.

Recording booth= A three dimensional structure that is sound proof. Generally used when recording vocals and live instruments.
Is that better?

I got it the first time. What I made was what's called a joke. Not claiming it was funny, just what it was.

Sorry? LOL
Sorry! Honestly thank you for the link. You know this punctuation thing is such a new concept to me.

Dude!!

Ya'll are really bashing this dude. Ya'll may need to get a life for real, b/c what's the point in being on this site if you have nothing to contribute or ask.

Anyway, you may wanna start with a 2:1 ratio

set the noisefloor threshold to -30 db

set the rate to about 1-1.5 secs.

As far as attack and release.....set the attack to the fastest to start, and you will have to test it and play with it to get it just right, but let there be enough release so words don't pop out at you once they drop back to the alloted threshold.

DON'T MIX ON HEADPHONES ONLY, they serve as a good reference, but you need some good monitors.

Oh and I'm from Baton Rouge, so I had to offer what I could,

Go to tweakheadz.com, tweek will get you right

Whats up jamaal I go through baton rouge pretty often. Sometimes I go up there with unlv to help out and other times to open up for them. Are you a engineer. I'm drove right now and i'm almost to the point of depseration I just need to associate myself with good people and if I have to drive to br to do it its kool. (besides i have a couple of females to visit along the way lol) Thank you for the advice I do some recording at my house. If you have a e-mail address I can e-mail you some songs and let you check them out. We're to close not to try and collabo I know i'm hot and I have a small buzz to back it up. Thank you for the advice homie.

No man, I wasn't bashing him. I gave him a link to about 50 articles on compression so he can help himself. You know, teach a man to fish and all that...
Giving him ratios and setting is NOT doing him a favor at all. You're hurting him more than helping him, y'all.

Yea, I think New Orleans will still take the American dollar. Although I hear some of the French are picky about excepting nickels and pennies on Bourbon street.

Who is like the local expert hip-hop engineer. Or does everyone do every genre besides hip-hop? If so I can't say I blame you.

alevy, hip-hop is just like everything else. If it is good, people will notice. Maybe not the kind of people you want (major labels and such) but people will notice and you will gain some level of success. But creating something good depends way more on YOU and very little on your gear and/or settings.

Now on to the issue still at hand. Vocal recording/effects/compression...

Without the most basic understanding of how these things work, it is literally impossible to help you. The BEST thing for you to do is focus on the source, and get the cleanest, best track you can. Then, experiment with the default settings that you have. Play with them and learn. That is all anyone will be able to tell you, even a pro. Even if you are given a magic setting, you won't know *why* it works and you won't be able to modify it to apply to *your* sound. You will be using someone elses setting - someone else's sound. You want your own sound, don't you? You have find it. I cannot be given to you.

IMO it is not harsh to tell someone that they need to learn the basics, trust their ears, and speak (ok..write) like a reasonably intelligent and coherent person.

Actually I have a general idea of how everything works but the combinations are infinite. So i was wondering what not to do. What is too much. What settings would be over kill. (Mainly the gain) Maybe my settings sound more as if im trying to compress a drum kick or cymbals or something.

P.S. It is a bit harsh to call someone a thief though. lol

Br

I'm not an Engineer (Well I'm a Software Engineer) But I do engineer quite often. I have a production company as Well (And Damn Right we produce hip hop, as well as R&B, Alternative, and Rock) My producer can do it all. We are currently working on Our first Project (Young Chilla-Mandatory).

So yeah, we can definately Collab....Maybe help each other out....we're looking to create that buzz for him. He did, however, just get in an accident, so he won't be able to record for about 2-3 months.

but my email is

if you want you can send your number to the my inbox on here, and I'll give you a call.

It's all about how you approach people. Now the way you approached the situation (ZED) was cool.....But as far as the other idiots...what's the point...this isn't elementary school. Reach one Teach one.....Dude didn't come at anybody stupid......and who ever made the bash on hip hop....was that needed. Who cares if you don't like hip hop, cool, I don't like country (well I like some)..but if a fellow musician/engineer/whatever asked for my advice and he happened to like country...I don't mind helping him...it's all about the music with me and I believe in helping if I can and I will be blessed somewhere along the line.

Just some food for thought........

"What is too much" is subjective. Only your judgement will tell you that.

"What settings is overkill" is subjective. Still YOUR judgement call.

This is like elementary school stuff, but the only firm guideline for gain is to keep it out of the red. But then you might like a clipped sound, so again.....YOUR judgement......

Your settings CANNOT be "more like trying ot compress drums or something", as long as it sounds good to you.

For the last time, and with a friendly grin, :D USE, AND TRUST, YOUR EARS!! They are way more effective at getting a good sound that any kind of setting.

o k how about I trust my ears and then post it for your ears. so that i can trust yours ears and hopefully make some progress

Zed do you have a e-mail address? Obviously i'm not wording my question correctly. I dont know. Maybe you can hear something obvious and help me out. Thanks again. I need the help. lol
