Before you think ill of me, no I'm not slumming with Creative. This actually has nothing to do with recording at all. It just happens that I had to "nuke" (errase & rebuild) a computer at work today, which happens to have an old SB Live Value card in it. We keep a few of these around for executives who need to waste time listening to audio CDs & playing games & such. Well, I had to put Windows 98SE on this machine instead of XP - don't ask why, suffice to say I just had to.
So I go to Creative's site looking for a Win98 SB Live driver, and all they have are driver "updates", i.e. you have to install the Creative CD first. The CD that I have, which came with our crate of OEM SB Lives, installs a whole bunch of Creative programs & crap that I do not want, and do not want our employees to have. However there is no provision for a "custom" or "driver only" install. You get all or nothing.
Does anyone out there know where I can download just a bare-ass driver for a SB Live card in Win 98? I have to believe there is one out there some where...
