I like the way the vocals and guitar tone combine and think there's a good mix balance there. Agree that the drums could come up just a little. Bass sounds great on my system.

The coolest thing I'm hearing in it is the similarity in the vocals and overall feel of the piece with some of the darker Gregorian Chant. All it needs is a verse in Latin. Very cool.

Thanks to everyone for listening, and the kind words. :)

I'm sure it's not "proper" latin (I never took that course), but doesn't "non lacrimae rerum" roughly translate to "no tears for it all" or something of the sort? "non lacrimae rerum" was the original title, maybe the vox can't be understood during this part...hopefully you're not just being facetious :o :D

Drums and vocals up a bit... Any more suggestions?
Can anyone recommend a cheap (or free) limiter to bring the mix volume up? I'm pegging the yellow in Ntracks pretty constantly even at this volume...
If I have time, I might also re-track one of the guitars. There are a couple of screw-ups there that jump out at me...

Oh yeah, drums and bass guitar are via Zoom rt323. The "bass guitar" was recorded on a seperate track, having gone through my sansGT2, which IMO gave it a more realistic sound... At any rate, I have little control over the individual levels between snare/kick. I suppose if I dig, I may be able to find a custom setting or something though... I REALLY hate programming that damned thing!

Thanks again to all.

Gave a listen to the reposted version. I thinks it's very well done. Bringing the vox a bit would be nice, and a catchier drum part. Over at RP they seem to do a lot of collab stuff; maybe someone could do a better drum part for ya. My drums suck, too, 'cuz I ain't learnt to program them.

And it needs a despondent guitar solo.

Real drums would be nice!

I gave a thought to trying to concoct some sort of solo, but concentrated on trying to find a bridge or refrain or chorus or something to change it up... which never came...

What kind of drum machine do you have apl?
Almost seems it would be easier to just record actual drums/bass than to program the damned things sometimes... then again sometimes it fall right in place (rarely, but sometimes  ).

I've got a Yammy RY9.

It'd be cool to have a drummer at your disposal, but drums are a lot of work to record.

Celler, you want a real bass, let me know. I'd give it a shot. A solo, I might be able to play that to this track, if you don't want anything too spiffy.

Fascinating. No, I wasn't kidding.

Digitalfishphones Blockfish, using the limiter function only (no compression) and chain 2 to 5 in a row. Freeware, sounds 90% as good as the Waves L2 to my ear if you chain it and have very little gain reduction at each stage. Otherwise it overloads, distorts, and can clip since it's not a brickwall like the L2.

Nothing but complimentary....Great song..You have a good voice. It made me wanna tear up something. Like throw my 688 into the wall. Or tear down the curtains. That is the way you can tell if a song rocks is it not? :D

Listened again DWELLAR...I do so like this tune...
Hey, Am I hearing a female voice in certain parts backing you up???

Very weak drums. Samples im thinking. Guitar tone is quite nice and deep sounding, but a bit too fuzzy.
The mix as a whole just doesnt have the presence or energy. (not talking about the song writing).
Are you crying yet?
Sorry man. but just being honest.
Vocals remind me of Foo fighters first album. Cool

I dig it..
It has kind of a 90's grungy/alternative feel to it, only modernized a bit. I personally am coming to appreciate this kind of slow, heavy kind of metal a little myself, here lately.
