I read all about the MG series here. I know its a good cheap option for a mixer with pre's. But I also read that SoundCraft is a better quality unit. I am going to buy either the MG 12 or the Soundcraft COMPACT 10. Are they in the same category of "cheap" or is the Soundcraft going to be a bit better?

I can live with two less mic inputs. I only need 8 anyhow.

I have heard that the pres in the Compact are pretty usable. I don't think there will be a major differance. So I would look at features that you need most. The Soundcraft E Series and M above that have very nice pres.

I still love my M-Audio Tampa and I bought a second today.

I wanted a Soundcraft, but I wanted a 4-buss mixer so I bought the Yamaha MG. It's not bad at all. I read up on both for a while and my conclusion was that the difference between the MG and the Soundcraft was small UNLESS you got an M-series Soundcraft. I emailed Soundcraft and asked about the difference in pres between the M's and the the lesser models, but they never responded. I hate that. That made it easier to buy the Yamaha.
