I just ordered my AW16G :)

My AW16G is on the way -

I can't wait to get it. It was a long battle between the D1600 MKII and the AW
G. I was turn off buy the cheap plastic feel of the Korg. The Yamaha also has better converters and effects. I don't really care about the drum stuff. I just want to track and mix

I've already got a project setup to make some $$. How do some of get business. As a sound contractor I work with a lot of churches but most are out of town. I want some local stuff.

Congrats on the purchase! I too use the G and it's the best "16 track" I've
used. I also use it in me and my dad's home studio and I have to say it packs a big punch for such a little machine . As to your question bout gettin business, Well..word of mouth worked for me and my dad. We just put out a couple cd's and left our contact info on them and the business picked up from there. I've had my AW16G for almost 2 years now and I love it. I record nothing but solo acoustic guitar instrumentals with it and they sound killer. But you will need a mic preamp for this baby...let me suggest the M-AUDIO DMP3 at about $150. These units together with a decent mic or two will give good results. This recorder is not an "idiot" model like so many others, and it does require a little patience and close attention to the manual. Let me also point you to AW16G.com. Its a forum similar to this one on just this machine...its really cool. You've made a great choice and contact me with any questions on it...

I have a M-Audio Tampa (fried last Thur, but out for repair) I also have a Soundcraft M series mixer. What is a good multi channel pre (4 or more pres) that is small so I can take it around with me. I've read some good stuff about the ADA8000 is there any other options in that price range worth looking at.

I'd be very interested in a look at the Studio Projects 8-channel pre. Sounds like a serious piece of kit!

Failing that ... two DMP3 would make sense ... but you can get those cool 19" rack 'gig bags' that would be wicked to take a couple of Joemeek twinQs or Focusrite Twintraks around in!

I think I'll go with the DMP3s. I also thought about a small yamaha MG10 and tapping the inserts. That would be a lot easier, cheaper and get a mixer to boot.

The little MG is very decent but I imagine the DMP3s will be a big step up. You could also get four SP VTB-1s and rack 'em into 2Us ... sorry to flog this rack idea!

2 snippets for you deepwater:

If you use the inserts it reverses the phase, you can reverse it back on the AW16G if you need to i.e. if you're combining other sources

The AW's output is pretty weak, -10dB, when using one in a rehearsal room I used to run it through a spare stereo channel on my MG12 to get a decent level for the PA. If you needed to do the same then the 12/4 would give you more flexibility.

Good choice. With nearly two years of daily use, my G is purring along beautifully, without a crash or problem of any kind. I wish I could say that about my two computers. The G's just a great unit for its intended use.
