I hate patchbays

Exactly! It's just set up to be an extension of all the stuff you want frequent access to, all in one spot.

Excellent! I couldn't get anything online to say that very thing...

Obviously the patchbay changes signal flow, hence all of the different normalled, halfnormalled, open, denormalled, thru, etc. I was pretty sure denormalled is what I wanted but all the diagrams showed signal only going one way... never both ways... so I wanted to confirm but for I went out an spent money. Z, thanks.

You're welcome. :)

I can understand your confusion about directionality, BTW.

Anyhow, good luck with your setup. I was a very happy camper when I finally got a patch strip. You can keep everything nice and tidy and not have to crawl around under the table every time you want to change something around.

It also makes info on this link false.... bottom is not ALWAYS in and top is not ALWAYS out

You can wire a patchbay how ever the hell ya want. The link given was to try and help you clarify what would work for you. Sorry I stepped into this one.

That is the standard way of hooking them up. The standard is there so that you can walk into any studio in the world and know where the inputs and where the outputs are. It's not that you can't use the top for inputs, it's just that you don't hook it up that way.

Also, if you hook it up backwards and you do have the patchbay normalled, the front jacks won't do what they are supposed to do.

But again, if you have the patchbay de-normalled, what is plugged into the back is connected (in both directions) to the front.
