If I shut off some processes, wont they just come back on if I have to restart for some reason??
Sounds easier to just get more RAM. (?)

One other thing.

I have this arrangement thats about 3 minutes long, 6 tracks with some basic effects.
For the first 2:45 it sounds like shit, all that digital screeching and such. Then for the last 15 seconds or so, it clears up and sounds perfectly fine.........

are there less tracks or less going on during the final 15 seconds? this could cause the computer to speed up and resume playback due to your ram handling less tracks easier.

push ctrl, alt, del...and click the performance tab during this problem sometime, and see how much of your computer is being used at the time . if its not that much then it's probably not the processes or ram that is your problem.

Ok heres what happened.
Regarding your first question. The song has 7 tracks. If I solo one track the distortion is not as bad , much less actually, but still there. With each track I add to playback it gets worse. With all 7 its unbearable.

#2 During playback of my arrangement, when the sound is distorted, in the performance tab my CPU Usage meter reads between 16-18%. As soon as the last 15 seconds plays, where it sounds fine, the meter quickly drops to 3-4%. This is with all 7 tracks playing.

Thanks,I feel like you might be getting somewhere.

Back in the day I had a crappy gateway comp using an integrated sound chip. The sound would hiccup and manfunction from time to time, but never really seemed to go away completely. I replaced that with a soundblaster live soundcard, problem solved.

Were you using another ASIO type card for your recordings or just this SB live?
