now this not make much sense, so im going to try to explain it the best i can.

ok now i wanna get a neck to a lefty p-bass, take off the nut and reverse it, and put it on my righty p-bass...so the headstock would be backwords.......now would this work?

i think it would look awsome...

I guess that it would,...
Rember that the nut is already shaped and filed for left handed. So you will probably need to install another nut.

I won't look good just flipping the nut around because the side that goes toward the fretboard is nice and rounded, compared to the side that goes toward the headstock. (that side is usually flat)

And of course the decal would be upside down :(

thats the idea :-D

so i would just have to reshape the nut?

now i just need to find a lefty neck...

Made me smile....:)

What about the size of the holes in the machine heads - are they all the same or do they get smaller? If so they'd be the wrong way round, guess you'd have to swap them all over.

For me the biggest concern that I personally would have with doing that would be damaging the structral integrety of the ax.

Other than that I think it would be pretty cool!!!

may as well upgrade the nut as long as you are removing it. Pick up a blank bone nut, measure sand and file. Machine head hole size is not going to change unless you are talking about a six or more string bass. So no worries. As far as screwing up the integrity..... a Bass neck is designed to handle a shit load of torque (1/4 inch strings can support bridges over water) so go ahead and have fun.

This is the biggest problem I see.. That would kind a look dumb.. But course that is my opinion...

so it wouldnt screw up my baby? would i have to change the neck at all or would it fit into the whole?..........now i just need to find a lefty neck...and some money lol......oh yeah, would the tuners need to be change or all they all the same? and what about that little thingy that holds the D and G string?

freak

The neck will most likely drop right into place. Now some necks use an offest screw pattern, so you want to avoid that. Offset screw pattern is where the 4 screws are not all lined up in a line.
example of normal (see neck plate) :: <----- Four screws
offset would be more of a :; <--- with one side tighter. Christ hard to depict with text. Yamaha uses offset on a couple models I think.

The "thingie" that holds down the D and G is called a string tree. Yes you would need to move that over to once again hold down those strings.

As mentioned above, the machines should be the same, barring it being an exotic bass.

"....a string tree"

I always wondered where strings came from. Do they look like spaghetti trees?:D

i thought bass strings were grown like a potatoe....but i guess they grow on trees...:-D

they just might grow on the spaghetti tree right beside the noodles....some people do boil bass strings lol

freak

I heard a bass player once say that he boils his string...

What is that for?

i heard they do it becuase it makes the strings play like they are brand new....ive never done it....i dont plan on it either, i think its wierd...
