... because I want to play the guitar that pleases me most. Nevertheless I think this might be a Fender :p .

So what shall I do? I want a strat-like guitar with h-s-s pu's and non-floyd-rose tremolo. Most probably a Fender Standard Strat HSS would be my axe... but it's a Fender and Fenders are overpriced and somehow too much of a cliche for me. My biggest influences also play Fender and a lot of my favorite guitar-tones on albums are achieved with a Fender. Damned!!! Is there no way of bypassing Fender for me?

I have a Japan Jackson (JSX-94) now. h-s-s and floyd rose. I replaced the bucker with a DiMarzio Superdistortion and the neck-sc with a DiMarzio VintageBlues. I like this guitar but it's getting old: the frets and even the fretboard are worn down and the tuners don't go smooth, which is not too fatal because of the floyd rose... oh yeah, I HATE floyd rose. So these are the reasons I have to replace this guitar.

I checked out Ibanez' site - but their strats all have humbuckers in neck-position which can't be splitted.

What else could be a fine guitar for me?

Try a Blade guitar. Fender-style strats but with a twist. The problem with the floyd rose is that even if you don't use the tremolo at all, the sustain of the guitar is still determined by the bridge for a big part. A gibson-style bridge will not only be tremolo-less, but also change the sustain, and thus the tone for a great deal.

Perhaps you should try a floyd rose but put some extra springs in it to make it sit tighter (I put 5 in mine, can't use the tremolo arm anymore at all now, but I don't need to either).

wow. blade are swiss made. jeeeezus. and the shops here around don't have them, ha!

Look at G&L

I'll second that.

Also, the Yamaha Pacifica PAC012 has the H-S-S you're looking for at a very reasonable price.

Swap out the pups (if you're picky about your tone) and you're good to go! ;)

check out the Oscar Scmidt OE33 semi hollow body guitar at musicians friend. Great Sustain, No tremolo, unfortunately it has two humbuckers, But this is a hollow body and that in itself cancels some of the muddiness of a neck position humbucker. (I can only assume that is why you do not want a neck position humbucker.) Believe it or not this guitar is going for 149.00 at MF and it is made by Washburn. I bought one...........I am a road musician and I own a Les Paul, Custom shop strat (my favorite) and a neck through the body Jackson Soloist along with this guitar. I took the 13's off of thing when I got it and replaced them with 10's and have been jamming live with this cheap ass guitar at several gigs lately. Just a suggestion.........If you don't want to spend the bucks but still want a great guitar you can't go wrong with the OScar Schmidt. :D

IMO don't buy a "fender style' guitar...buy a fender...don't buy a "strat style" guitar....buy a strat.

Fenders are priced as low as the copies in most cases.

if theres anything as cliche as using a fender strat, its using a strat-copy.

Hey man.........Why bash someone for the guitar they use? No one cares what you play.........Only IF you can play. That's all. Spend all the money you want but if you don't put the time in it won't matter.

Forgive me, 'cause I skipped the above replies, but you need to cut to the chase, and get an Ibanez. If you're into used/vintage instruments, hit Ebay for a 1985/6 Roadstar II RG-440. If you like brand new guitars, Ibanez had many fine models to choose from, 'cept I can't name any of them. Visit your local Guitar Center or Sam Ash store,... musicians's friend or other line outlet.

If you want to be really different, hit Ebay for a Danelectro Innuendo.
;)

I took my jackson to a music-store today and checked out some guitars, compared them to the jackson.

the supply was not too big, but at least I could test another jackson, different fender strats, two ibanez and some godins.

the jackson felt fine and the humbucker sound was great... because it was that neck-in-the-body-thing. the neck pu was one of those sc-looking humbuckers. so I definitely won't get the blues-sounds I want out of this. basically it looks strat, sounds gibson (just to keep it simple, jimistone :p )

the fenders sounded they way I expected them to sound - screw down the neck pu and there I'd have my sound. unfortunately they didn't have a humbucker-strat, but I don't need to play one because I don't like the feel of those fenders. today I realized that because I played them critically for the first time.

the godin I played was a bolt on neck with two humbuckers but I thought there surely would be the same model with h-s-s, so I played it for the feeling. not too bad, but the sound was far away from what I want: verrrry creamy to put it positively... hehehe (very dull I thought). ;)

ibanez. a cheap one and a middle-field. the cheap one was way out of tune and the nut was locked. but this neck... baby!!! so I tested the more expensive one, which looked absolutely terrible but sounded F*CKING great. and the neck of course was a dream. I'd even accept the floyd rose. It moves not a bit when bending strings. that's great. the downside for me is the neck-humbucker. most probably I would have to rewire some things to make it splittable and it'd be fine.

I have an Ibanez RG series that I like alot.

I installed a DiMarzio Air Norton in the neck position and a Steve's Special in the bridge. I have the neck pickup split for the single coil sounds and it really sounds sweet.

It has a nice range of tones, though not really what I would call either Fender or Gibson like. This I believe is due to the pickup positions within the scale length.
It does have a nice bunch of sounds though.

DiMarzio even includes a wiring diagram sheet with their pickups, so you can choose between what you might like.

I'd rather play this guitar than a Fender any day of the week.

The only issue I have with these lower end Ibanez' are the bridges. Do yourself a favor and install a nice quality floyd type bridge if you decide to get one of these. The stock ones are made from way crappy materials and do not last long.

Good luck!

thanks so far, guys.

ibanezrocks: yep. might be just the thing - although I'd prefer such an edgy body that jacksons and RGs have... just for the look  . I also think about the AT model that seems to have the right sound (checked out some Andy Timmons sutff), but I have no clue how much it costs, and again: I don't like the look, I hate this violin-color.

to quote the stones: I see this guitar and I want it painted bla-ha-ha-ck :p :p .
