I go to music stores every two weeks or so. I try so many and have yet to find a decent one I would actually buy. Fender is a disgrace in general.

I completely agree that all Fenders are terrible guitars.

As a service to the guitaring community I will accept, for a limited time only, all of these disgraceful Fenders so that others will not have to endure these loathesome guitars.

It's a big sacrifice, but if it's for the greater good of all.......I'm willing to make it.

For many years I felt that Fender guitars are just parts-bin instruments, and do not have the quality of craftsmanship that other guitars demonstrate.

While the parts-bin description is accurate I think, I have come to understand that there is craft demonstrated in their construction and finishing. Aside from that, it doesn't matter if you think they are overpriced pieces of crap or not. Fenders - Strats and Teles in particular - have defined certain benchmark sounds by which other guitars are judged. Same with Les Pauls.

You'll never hear that said about an Ibanez.

All that having been said, it always comes down to "play what you like."

I happen to adore my Fender Stratocaster as I am a huge fan of the southern rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stevie Ray Vaughn kind of sound. Also I really enjoy the sound I get through my Fender Twin Reverb '68 Reissue (despite its lack of a built-in overdrive ) when playing on funk and blues as well.

I've long been a proponent of Fender guitars, but I also have a Gibson SG that I really like and I would LOVE to get a high quality Les Paul. Maybe some day I'll be able to afford the $2000+ price tag!

I never noticed the pile-ups bothering you much. That is quite the mental image - Benson or Metheny on a $130 Ibanez........

I was always under the impression that $600 is pretty cheap for a guitar. My Strat cost $1200. And that was 13 years ago.
