naww..no one fell off or fell asleep..they all moved..

now its a new generation..but they dont have the ol' Gees to help them make it...gangsta rap is gone..so now they must change their style to make ends meat..

lol I was just quoting "The Game". There's still successful gangsta rappers now-a-days, it's just there's also other types of rappers mixed along with it too.

Actually, there's still a huge market for gangsta rap... Look at Jeezy, and Rick Ross, etc... The thing is, the west still wants to hold on to their "traditional" sound with zoog basslines and reverse kicks or snares... It's old, and outdated. No one wants to hear that junk anymore... it was dope when Dre and Snoop rocked it in 93-96 but, times have changed. Get a new sound module or something...lol.. Stop regurgitating old songs that Death Row never used, or Pac passed up for his album. LET IT GO.

Seriously, try doing something original for once, and maybe the West can come back. The Hyphy dudes are on to something... No one outside the area is really feeling it right now, but 7 years ago when crunk started getting out of ATL to the masses, most people weren't feeling that either. Do your thing, and be real. That's all that matters.

I wasnt sayin that it was dead..just goin with the flow...

I dont consider Jeezy or Rick Ross ..Gangsta..more Commerical Gangsta.. like you said the GR rocke from 93-96..everything else is commerical to feed the needy...

yeah..they still do a few tracks here and there..but nothing like the old days..LOL

u gotta look at the fact that jeezy and rick ross are from ATL and Mia so their version of gangsta rap is a lil different then snoop lol... i would concider rick ross a gangsta rapper tho and i actually like him...... if u listen lyrically he aint that bad and his album has its moments.... matta fact thats whats playin in my car right now(that is if i went and turned my car on lol)

I agree with that but over all I give his album an "ehh" It has two bangers and some good beats but it has some shit beats too IMO. And I kinda get sick of his flow if I listen to him long enough.

i dont consider ross or jeezy gangsta..i considerrr them hood..its more about the stories of the dope came..then beatin and shootin..
but me being from the south thats how i view it..

interesting

someone mentioned club beat. it should be a strategic move you have your club songs, your riding songs those are used to attract audience.

My argument has nothing to do with South EAST or West. it's about the lyrics

the beat is nice to have but not always necessary, why because you can listen to a beat and figure it out within a minute, and you can find the next hot producer to get some beat
Lyrics on the other hand is a must have, you can have a hot record which will propel your album to platinum status, but they going to find you out, and down you go.

so regardless of where you're at, noone can ever front on your lyrical skills.

yes i confess i'm a lyricist first.

im a lyricist to but i just think people need to look at music sometime for what it is and not everyone is a lyricist cause if they were the game would be boring... and imo the game aint boring right now

when i say it's all about the lyrics i understand that no everybody is at Rakim Level. but when i hear a song about Chicken noodle soup (i promise i heard it on the radio) on a nice beat (Dirty Southish) i can't help but think that this artist is good for one season. however the beatmaker is here to stay.

btw Lafy tafy was too deep for me, way over my head
somebody please put me on.

Black Spy

well....

Actually to me that Ross is fire.......I give it a 8-9/10. You really have to sit there and listen man he is tight. The album and shit is way better than a lot of shit i been hearing.

What are y'all talking about?

Yeah, they have no lyrical skill but the worst thing about these South cats [most of them] is that the beats are SHITTY!

Compare any crunk beat to something like, "Thelonius", "N.Y. State of Mind", "T.R.O.Y.", or any other classic record - you will find them lacking.
