I bought a M-Audio for Drums, but now I would like to learn piano.

Is there any good software that will work with my M-Audio49e for piano lessons and teaching? Is that something that Cakewalk does?

Looking at what you're going to do, it seems you're on a budget (who isn't?), but if you really want to learn to play piano, with both left and right hands at the time, you'll be looking at a larger keyboard (more keys), I'd say 61 keys is the minimum, preferably 88 keys (like a real piano).

Now you could start out on the 49 keys thing, but you'll quickly realise you're out of keys to play on... Plus you won't have the key feel of a real piano...

Anyway, about piano learning, I'd suggest either a teacher, or a good book, in combination with a soft synth to get you sounding like a piano. Sampletank has got awesome piano sounds, and has got awesome sounds for just about anything, but it's pricey. I'm sure there are cheaper, or even free, software pianos... you could of course use the GM sound set.

I'd say you should also look for a foot switch/sustain pedal. I don;t know the M-Audio keyboard you're using, but it should have a foot switch input, it's key for playing piano.

Hope this helps, it's probably not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth...

Stan.

Do you mean piano or keyboard?
If you're just looking to add some sounds to existing tracks your keyboard will due.
If you want to play it as a solo instrument things get a bit more complicated.
There is a difference in how you approach the instrument.

Thanks for the advice. I think maybe I need to get a full size keyboard. I really am looking to maybe learn piano. I have had so much fun tinkering on this m-audio thing sounds like I need the real deal.

i did the same thing, got a keyboard for doing drums and ended up loving playing around with synths and piano. i'm keeping my little keyboard though. it's just handy to be able to set in my lap for controlling sonar or tappin out drum beats.

i would like to have a full size keyboard though.
