I am building my desk...

Very cool design, and nice carpentry.

I am finally at the point where I need to build a purposed piece of furniture for my audio gear. I was thinking of the keyboard tray idea too since I don't use it that often, cool to see someone else did one! Because I don't have a whole lot of spare time, I think I might start with a desk, and build a desktop keyboard tray/shelf/rack to go on top of it. I really like your design though.

What did you use for the sliding tray, regular drawer sliders, or did you cannibalize a computer keyboard tray?
 
I used regular drawer sliders, big enough to hold the keyboard + the player's (me!) enthusiasm while playing :D

It works fine but i think i will do some refinements as it is quite heavy to pull out !

Anyway... the real nightmare is NOT building the thing... is taking measurements to make everything fit together !!

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I guess a normal keyboard slider setup is probably not heavy duty enough, especially for an enthusiastic player :)

I hear ya on the measurement and design side of things. It seems like whenever I'm woodworking, or working on my house, the think never ends up coming out exactly the way the plan was because I realize later on that something isn't right, or could be better, and modify it as I go. The fact that you did such a nice planning job saves that kind of "on the fly" correction.

So. What did it end up costing you for EVERYTHING?

(Wood, screws, glue, casters, hardware.....)
 
Apart from the GOODIES that are housed now in/on the desk.. :D :D...

Well.. All the pieces of MDF costed around 180$ (converting from Euros), then i ordered 4 '1 meter' aluminum rack strips (that i cut for the two big racks and the 2 small racks)(20$), 8 wheels for the racks (16$), something like 300 screws (10$ roughly), 50 metal angled plates (to fix the various parts together) 20$, the sliders (12$), 20 rubber things ( don't know the name in english) that lie between the "legs" of the desk and the floor (5$)... then the paint (around 15$) ...NO GLUE (everything is fixed in the back by another wooden piece that prevents the structure from moving)....i think that's it...

And that makes...278/280$ more or less ( but that should be the right price)...

Looks Great!
The color scheme matches those Tannoys too. Good planning.

But, um.... I think you need to get those Tannoy's up off their sides and onto their ends.
 
I guess so... just on one side i have a window that would be partially blocked by the speaker, and it's summer, you know :D..

But I will put them upright during real use... :p
