Hypothetical question

The best budget mic is the EV BK-1. It will blow everything else that's under $200 bucks outa the water, by a long mile. Grab an AT2020 while you're at it. No need to blow your whole budget trying to buy new china mics that will have a ton of presence boost. The EV is hard to find, but extremely honest, a well kept secret.

Thanks for tips. I found the C-1000 to be OK or better if I set the distance some longer away. At home I have 2 Apex 205 ribbon mics. Made in China, but this are extremely good. They catch a clearer and fuller sound both low and high. Very nice for my trombone. The Focusrite preamps also help I believe. Im very happy with that setup. The preamp on that Behringer mixer is nothing compare to the Saffire 6 USB. So big difference.

Another town works...but I find for real quality it's best to be in Australia with the C1000s in the UK.

That seems to eliminate all the harshness...

Great recordings start with talent.

Or maybe good performers

I did a recording with my bass trombone. C-1000 + a dynamic mic which I dont remember the name of.

link is : ://dl.dropbox.com/u/1889167/27%20okt11%20whoopee%2002.mp3

just set "http" in front of it. What do you think. Should I keep the trombone and sell my mics?

The recorded trombone certainly doesn't sound bad at all, so if you think you've found a workable SOP with the C1000...then use it. Maybe for trombone the otherwise thin/harsh sound of the C1000 is neutralized by the timber/tone of the trombone...?
I think most of the negative responses are based on everyone else's experiences with the C1000 in other situations, so you have to compare that to your own.

Are there better mics than the C1000...most certainly, but if it works for you, don't worry about it. :)
Ribbon mics seem to be good choices for brass...but I think for trombone, it may not be the case as much as say...trumpets and saxophones.

I have a Shure SM56 on a trombone right now!

Isn't the bone one of the few instruments that can break the sound barrier?
