Hustle Magic: Tha Compilation!

Yo, so who else we waitin' on to submit material for the compilation?

Here's what we got so far (in no specific order)...

Nick Springfield - Happy Go Lucky
Change feat. K-Otic - 16 Tears of a Man
Chalin - I'm Only A Man
Chalin - To The Love of My Life
Slept On Fam - From The Bottom
Slept On Fam - Warrior's March
Fieva - Ridin' Skinnies
Russ Tafari - Tennessee
Soul B - Hustle (It's What We Do) produced by Chalin
TradeMark feat. Great Dane - PC Got Dough

That's 10 tracks in my hand right now.

I know Beatmakers is putting the finishing touches on the Step By Step track.
I think Jug is working on a track as well.
I've got some recording to do my damn self...too much organization not enough mic work.

So with that, we'll have 13 tracks. If we go single, I'm wanting about 20-23 tracks of good music depending on disc space. Would everyone agree or disagree on that?

Also, I think we need a couple of more compilation tracks. Who's game on that?

I think we got a good thing goin' here...don't lose focus on it.

NOw i come before my brothers in music with this statement so yall keep me straight. I think 15 tracks and below is a good number. Whenever i see a cd with more tracks than that i'm generally turned off. I see them as evrybody trying to get on one cd which means a lot of garbage and maybe a few good songs. I know we got more than that but first oimpressions before they hear it. Also going through a cd of 20 something tracks is not a doable thing in one sitting. What happens is a cat will preview about 10-13 tracks and judge it as good from there cuz they aint gone preview 20 + tracks. Just my thaughts. Which leads to the second CD Hustle Magic II the hustle dont stop , or what ever. How do you guys feel about it. Just as a show of sincerity you can decide if the step colabbo goes on the first or second one if it will keep the number of tracks small on one. I just feel if we churn out a cd every other month or something like that it will build a steady base and showcase consistancy. kind of like a magazine subscription people would look foward to the next installment. What do you guys think?

i can agree with that. i know that the more you get for your money is generally better, but i think too many songs on a cd could cause overkill for some people. 15 tracks is a really good number because you don't have to worry about disc space and it's a not too hard of a goal to meet when putting together a good cd.

a cd every two or three months sounds cool. as long as we have good push men like Fieva and Bknot ensuring that the quality and the delivery (due date)of the product meets the standard then these projects should be good.

i like your ideal..but most magazine subscription have at least 20 tracks on it for underground artist to shine..with a DJ talkin over the song..we dont want that..we want to be able to create a CD that showcases the artist talent and get them radio play as well as get them noticed in a wider location then what they have now..Fie and I are still workin on makin this a great classic undergrond Album that will make noise for you all..not just some internet album that no one will remeber but us..so we take all comments to heart to get the right feel of promoting it the right way..

We also have to take into consideraton that our brothers here are also busy with their own lives, albums, and side projects.

Here is my personal thought on the compilation idea. If you take the compilation and network it, people will be more likely to listen to it because they know you. That's how word of mouth spreads, usually someone tells the next person that they know someone who was involved in the CD.

Here's a question for you all. Would you be more likely to want to listen to something that came from someone you knew or would you be more likely to pick up (and fully listen to) something some dude you don't even know is selling from the corner?

Also, keep in mind that the compilation can also help your own CDs. You can add that on your creds. If people liked shit on the compilation, they'd be more likely to be on the lookout for when your own album drops, which is why there would be information available on the CD to get more potential fanbase directed towards individual sites.

I really think that we'd have something good here if it's all done right. I don't oppose doing a disc 1/disc 2 but with no distribution except ourselves, that'd be harder to keep track of. Me personally, I feel ripped off when I get a CD and there's only 13 - 15 tracks on it (not including intros, outros, and skits). But I look at that from a logical viewpoint thinking I'm paying x amount of cents/dollars per track....but all facts aside, truthfully, I don't even wanna sell it, I'd rather give it out as promo, people are more likely to take it and listen to it if they gettin it for free.

I think the appeal from what I've heard so far is that different people will like different tracks, that's what we're aiming for here. Can't please everybody all the time, especially when you're starting out. Hell, if any of ya'll catch a good deal or get good grind off it...I'm happy for you, that's what we're tryin' to do.

So who's backing this on the back end? You say magazines are backing the others so is HR backing us. That would make more sense if we had some media type of backing. If HR is gonna back us then I would agree we need to get some others to get a fulll representation of HR. But if thats not the case then we need to do it all ourselves which means a smaller number and quality over quantity so we can establish something. Then once it's cracking expand tracks on the next one.

I dont know how many submissions you guys have gotten but it's more than likely if you didnt have close to 20 at this point you may scramble to reach that amount meaning maybe some songs that may have not made the list if you had more submissions will make the list. I think you should just wait and see what else you get keepign in mind 15 is the magic number unless you get a storm of submissions. Also guys who are currently on the list may want to think about submitting more songs too. IMO this is basically a demo of your talent to someone and you probably would want to show different stuff. Plus it would improve the CD some what instead of just waiting for new artist submissions.

Trying to appeal to different audiences is a great idea for a compilation now. I would wait to see what the final product is before just deciding to give it totally away for free.

We need a street team that is really who is suppose to get the word out. With hotsounds we all play apart as being a street team member. And nothing just random organize stuff like choosing a day eveyone using that to promote it. Whether your gonna hand out free stuff make a T shirt or what ever it just has to be organized and get a decent amount of feedback on what worked. I'm pretty shure you all have your own ways of promotion and since this is such a networking project we should all become a member of the street team or at least 90 percent of the participants should. That would maybe exclude Knot and Fiev. I doubt they would want to do that but they are doing alot so it would be understandable. At school I was a member of a 15 member street team for just one artist.

I agree with you..but its no back from Hr.com..this is done by ourselves by ourselves..we got about 10-13 songs now..and we original asked for the are to submit 2 tracks apiece...and about 5 collabs ..so it will give the listeners a feel of how the artist on here can work together and still shine on their solo projects...yes you right its basically a demo you you all to showcase your talent that we can mail out to magazines for review and take to radio stations to get song played on the air to see how the listener like the songs..if we can get HR.com to back us it would be great..but right now it looks like he doin it on our own..

yeah..dont sleep..welcome Misery to the fam..stay active..collab..and network..stay up..peace

We can wait and see how the final version is before deciding pricing, but the songs that we lack are from some of the artist that have already put work in on it...including myself. So far, I see a lot of potential for people to get to hear our music and make their own opinions on it. I think we can roll wit' that.

Yo Bknot, by the way, I got another track from Change today. It's solid so I'll have to send that over to you for your take on it.

Misery, it's good to see a female wanting to join along and get some of that Hustle Magic. Me personally, I think she should be in one of the collabs that we do. I've heard her spit and I think it's somethin' that we can work with. Females always bring female listeners to the table. Female listeners are usually the ones who request songs and the ones the stations are more likely to listen to when it concerns what's going to be popular on the air.

Cover is coming soon. I ain't slept on it yet.

If possible that'd be good.

yeah, i remember that fiev and bknot originally wanted an explicit version and then a radio version. i don't know if that counted as two songs or not. I haven't done a radio version of the song chalin is working on for me, but hopefully he can edit it and make a radio friendly version of, although word on the streets is that the radio stations still frown down upon edited profanity. i remember someone telling me that anything over two or three profane words being bleeped out is not acceptable, i also think that rule only applies to local groups submitting thier records. this was the information given to me last year when i was still living in georgia. that being said, i can re-record the whole thing for the radio if you all would like (bknot, fiev, chalin). i can also submitt a fresh new song but i won't be able to record until next monday because i'll be in the field this weekend.

I really thinks this depends on the radio station..cause i recall 2 pac :Hit'em Up" song on the radio in the Atl and that song had so many bleeps in it..i had to go find the song just to listen to what he was actually sayin..Lil Jon tracks on the radio is the same way.. I think its all depends on how the effects are use to cover them up..muting the track to me isnt really good it takes away from the track..unless its something that really shouldnt be heard..

yeah i agree with you on that and i think since us local guys are not paying payola, that may cause us to be restricted to a more strict set of rules. this should only be taken as a grain of salt because i didn't personally hear this, i just heard from this dude who heard it from a radio station dj.

Good point. Yeah guys, I would watch your cursing if you want your tracks to get air play. There's some songs I write where damn near every line has an expletive in it...but that would never hit the radio. Some of the stuff I've gotten has no profanity in it whatsoever. In others, there's a little to quite a bit. This also includes gun and drug references as well. I'll listen to the songs I have again and see what's up on that. I just made it point to keep my solo songs as clean as possible...ok so i cursed a good one on the Step By Step, but the beat had me amped up lol.
