For me, the vocal melody to Pot of Gold takes the song over the finish line.

There were some really good ones this time. I think I'll have to go with PI's today.

Stagefright - really nice guitar work!
Stay - Catchy. I think the distorted guitars could really stand to come out. They could really give it some oomph and make it sound less U2y.
Luptope - This seemed decently-enough written, but the synths were really cheesy. Casiotastic.
Lies - Yeah! Classic-style heavy metal! I really like the breakdown at the 3:30 mark.
Pot of Gold - That was weird. I like it! Fun and abrasive.
Blades Fade - I did not much enjoy this one. The playing was sloppy, and the cymbals sounded badly-compressed. :(
The Miles Gone By - Catchy! That's a solid one.
Back at You - Pretty good. I like the sax.
Loser - Not bad. Solo didn't do much for me though.
Transcendental Meditation - I'd actually have called that a spaghetti western kind of sound. Somewhere between a Sergio Leonne soundtrack and a Muse homage to aforementioned soundtrack. ;)
Serendipity - Lovely, but not really my cup of tea.

As a side note. Can we standardize the submissions or something? I'd like to be able to just download all the songs as mp3s and listen to them in succession instead of jumping between hosts and players.

Good idea, but it's probably tough to coordinate that - when you have Youtube videos and some don't want to allow downloads - just streaming.

Couldn't we all just upload to THIS site? That's where I uploaded my submission this time.

Problem is that I can't get a link to post in the (1st or 2nd) thread when you upload it to this site (as far as I know). I moved yours to lightningmp2.com so I could get a link to post.

That could work too. If everyone uploads to YT, you could set up a playlist. (I'm sure some of the other streaming sites support similar functionality too.)

I would personally prefer direct mp3 downloads, so that we could just grab them all and then listen on our favorite player, but any standardization would be an improvement.

I favored this idea when we did the first contest. Not only for convenience, but also to ensure no one is changing their mix during the contest.... like me. :D

That's where I was...I also thought that BrettBuc song was really good. But I'm sort of like the Grammys...I vote for favors, and I need Track Rat to build me a guitar and I don't know this BrettBuc character...if that's his real name.

It's my real name (sort of ;-), and i would have built you TWO guitars, if you only asked! It's lonely with just one little vote, but whatever. I guess it's hard for you guys to recognize brilliance when you see it! (heee haww..;-)

And not even a real vote at that. :)

WHAT?!? It's totally real! Which makes it the only real vote in this contest.....which makes me the WINNER!! :spank:

What did I win? T-shirt? Cash? Oh! Wait! MacBook Pro???!
:p

Heh... Now ya'll made me feel bad. Nobody seems to be voting for their own stuff! What's up with that?

holy snapping arseholes! this was real hard!!

Joey M ~ Lies:solid, tight, extremely well recorded and well performed

Beezelbubba ~ Transcendental Medication: restrained, tasteful, and a lingering build up. Great video too!

Spiderlandcapt ~ Rollerblades: rough, ready and with an engaging honesty about it.

Commanda ~ Lutope: Intriguing, with some quirky transitions

Poetic Intensitry ~ Pot of Gold: solid, energetic, powerful. Great recording!

Chili ~ Loser: Interesting chords, good dramatic movement throughout the track. Great chorus.

Brettbuc ~ Stay: instrumentally engaging. The echo on the vocals was disturbing.

Crazydoc ~ The cat pissed on my bass: A refreshingly light-hearted change after the intensity of some of the other tracks. A great novelty song.

Armistice ~ Stagefright: crisp guitars, crisp recording, tasteful, elegant, and highly competent. A joy to listen to.

Supercreep ~ The Miles Gone By: The sixties get hurled into the 21st century. A cross between Hollies and Beatles, all with the intensity and energy of a contemporary sound. Great harmonies, and I really like the time changes.

Trackrat ~ Back at You: Jeff Lynne and George Harrison get together again. Broody "all things must pass" feel. Excellent track.

After now having listened to all tracks, I have to cast just one vote? I was delighted to go with Supercreep, but there were at least four others I was dithering about.

Huh. I missed "the Cat Pissed on My Bass" the first time through. That was a good one! :D

I had to line the tracks then go through them one by one & one after another before I could majke a decision.
It certainly was difficult and came down to personal preference in the end.
I cast my vote ages ago but go back & listen to a few almost daily.
Having downloadable tracks really makes the process easier, as does not having a video to augment/distract.
I'd REALLY like the poll to be hidden until the votes are done & dusted - it's amazing how influential a graph can be on selection - both ways.
Some things to think about before reconvening perhaps.
