I would rather look at it as: People have DMP-3 and would like to know how to mod it to make it better.....

the DMP3 is already a great pre because it has high quality caps and quality Burr Brown INA 163 opamps. most of the mods that someone would perform are built into it...that's why i want it.
 
I think it should be me because I live 40 minutes from London and the postage will be cheaper. :p

While I may be impoverished, I don't deserve that kind of generosity, someone else needs it more than me I'm sure, and this is the first time I've seen anything of this whole thing anyway so I'm not even on the poll. I just thought I'd post something because this is the only interesing thread that caught my attention today.

Antichef, you are the diamondest of diamond geezers. I tip my hat to you (were I wearing one) for your display of generosity. It reminds me that there is some real good in the world, and reading this thread gives me a better feeling than any preamp could.

I think we're well aware who you were refering to.

Anti's more than generous offer carried no particular rules or conditions so if one person is generating more votes than anyone else, and those votes are coming from "established" members then that's all that matters.........ce la vie. There's nothing unfair about this "giveaway".............some of the comments being made just reek of "sour grapes":mad:.

What anyone does with gear they buy or in this case, are gifted, is totally irrelevant and nobody's business but their own.

i totally agree. but hopefully you can see where we're coming from. as the second highest vote getter, it's a little frustrating. the probable winner dropped out of the running a few days ago because he admits that he doesn't really need the preamp. now he's back in so he can try to mod it...but the DMP3 is not a very mod-able pre. in addition to being very small and difficult to work with, the components that are typically upgraded (caps, opamps, etc) are already very high quality.

that being said, it's by the book...can't really complain.
 
Although I never solicited the early votes, and was essentially penalized for something beyond my control, I had kinda hoped that by dropping out (in what I had hoped was the interest of fairness), that others might take note, and keep this competition as pure of spirit as were the OP's original good intentions.

That it has descended into petty squabbling makes me embarrassed to have been involved at all, and I can only hope that the prize ultimately winds up in the hands of somebody who truly needs and will appreciate it, for the true gift that it is, and use it to help bring joy to others.

Thanks again to antichef, and to you all, for reminding me about what's really important in this life....and what is not....:cool:

you're right. i didn't mean to come across as bitter. of course, a little jealousy can be detected in the "losers" posts, but as least from me, it was meant in good spirits. just a few posts ago, i congratulated evm1024 on passing me in the voting. a little competition developed between all of us, i think...but that's not so terrible. action! drama! suspense! it's all great fun. after all, a great free preamp is as stake, and we all frequent this board because we're passionate about this silly stuff.

....and perhaps I was a bit too fresh from a long day at work to appreciate passionate competitiveness as simply that...my apologies to any who may have been offended by my holier-than-thou attitude....I assure you that it has been adjusted, and there is nothing more to see here....move along.....

In that spirit, anybody who hasn't campaigned on the rest of the board and who does not get the DMP3, I have an Oz Audio headphone amp you can have. I'll read your sob stories and decide once I figure out who is qualified.

i've put up a few posts encouraging voting in general, and i apologize if it was obnoxious. but it's just because i think the quantity of votes is directly related to the spirit and integrity of the giveaway concept.

i just thought anti's good deed was shaping up to be in vain. 7-8 total votes didn't really seem like enough to reflect who really deserves his gift, which was the whole idea. i put up some posts, i got exactly one more vote, and evm1024's total shot through the roof. dang donkey and thajeremy also seemed to get more votes. if anything, the posts i put up damaged by cause...but even this morning i continued to bump the posts to try to make more people aware of the concept because it only works if people vote. i never encouraged anyone to vote for me specifically, just vote in general. believe it or not. but i'll shut up for good, because i keep putting my foot in my mouth, and i don't want to upset anyone.
