I have an HD24 set up with Mackie 32-8 analog board and I know switching to a Digital Boards would solve a lot of my problems and less patching. Anyone else using an analog board with the HD24?

Using a Mackie SDR, but same principle. Running a D&R Merlin setup in line from the 24 bus sends:)

So I am not alone

Great boards you guys are using there. Now, to patch this beast and end my headaches.

Thanks

I use a modified and upgraded Neotek Series II with my HD24. Love the setup and I can do all the things I need to do with it.

Cheers,

I'd love to have a yamaha DM2000 for my HD24 but, I'm doing some serious wishing here. Plus it's not an analog board but, analog boards w/ automation are more expensive than a digital one. It'd kick the pants off my ddx3216. Gosh, I wish I could afford a real board. I bet I'd love a speck x.sum over this crappy thing.

I think Alesis should buck up and spend some money on a hardcore companion to the HD24. Analog or digital, I don't care just something that can work seamlessly with it. All controls you need right on the console and super sound quality. Still probably wouldn't be a great board but, It'd be interesting to see if they could do it.

I'm bored, incase you couldn't tell. :D

Yep, I just use an analogue Peavey board with mine, using the 12 insert channels for recording and instant playback. Loadsa cables!

Would also love a decent digital board which would only use a few neat ADAT cables... but a few grand just to simplify patching is a bit of an expensive luxury

I keep on looking at the cheap Behringer digital board, but I'm not gonna be tempted (past experience and all that)

I'm currently using the fireport to dump all the files from a recording session onto my PC for mixing, but I've got a collection of outboard EQs and Compressors now so I'm wondering when I'll be doing my first outboard mix using my Peavey/HD24 and outboard gear... but not being able to save the settings of a mix doesn't excite me! I haven't done much mixing lately as I feel I'm betwix these two mixing worlds, thinking is it worth getting a decent digital board to mix with.

yep, I'm board too :)

Shoot, I'd buy an analog board if it had, in the very least, automation of faders and mutes. I don't need automated fx or auxes or all that onboard fx library crap and internal patching. I can deal with the wires, I can't deal with the prices of good quality consoles.

I will eventually get a yamaha digital console, I just hope technology doesn't make my HD24 obsolete before I can afford one.

Going Digital

Well I bought a Tascam DM 24 today, still in the box, need to travel so I wont hook it up any time soon. I also got 2 additional ADAT cards so I have 24 channels I/O to the HD24. Now, the question is, should I keep the analog board as well and use the DM24 as a tool? The HD 24 is not my only tracking device but I could use the DM 24 for all. What would you guys do.

There's a Toft audio board that's got adat I/O right around the corner. It might be out now, I'm not sure. That would save on your cabling. There's also a mackie solution, DB25 connectors, I think the Onyx1604 has two DB25's for direct out. Just a suggestion. ;)

well I hate to admit this but I use a Behringer MX9000 a 24ch recording board. Works well so far. the patching is a bitch, and I've already determined that if I was hardwired I'd have install a whole gaggle of patchbays. But for now since I'm old school I take my fat ass back there with a flashlight and change cables.

So you've got a mackie 32/8 and a Tascam DM-24? What would you sell the mackie for?

I'd probably keep them both because one may crap out on you and it'd be nice to have a spare. OTOH, if you could get a grand out of the mackie, you could get a nice highend mic or pre to use instead of the stock pres in the DM-24. You've got some good options to choose from here. Good luck!!

And if you're feeling super-generous, I'll take the 32/8 off your hands. :D
