I've got five reels of 2" AGFA PEM 469.
Browsing this forum and the net I've found that early batches got a reputation for shedding horribly, but some sources says that later batches should be fine.

Is there any way of telling from the box what year they're from?

Don't have any 2" machine so I might sell them - but don't wanna screw over anyone and might just sell them as empty reels if they're bad.

AGFA used a lot number with no discernible date in it that I know of. But it doesn't matter in this case because all AGFA PEM 469 is bad. It was made between 1984 and 1990, long before anyone caught and corrected the sticky-shed issue. They started with a bad binder and never changed it through the life of the product. I always advise people to avoid 469, but people keep selling it and people keep buying it.

Alright, I'll take your word for it mate, you're really into the strange science of telling good tape from bad. BTW you were right about 3M 996 being fine - in fact they're awesome. Had some shedding on first pass but one the second there was next to nothing.

My depts is running wild though so I'll better sell the AGFA cheaply warning people to just use it as a take-up reel.
Or sell my record collection. For christs sake...

Yep, the empty reels are certainly worth something. AGFA and BASF had the best reels.

I can estimate their age pretty well by peering at their teeth. :eatpopcorn:
