hi all,
i want to record some vids for you tube and have just started messing around with the Triaxis recording outputs. my intention is simultaneously video myself and record a seperate, high quality audio track..which i will later attempt to sync up in iMovie. I have the option of using my condensor (Rode NT1-A) to mic up the cab (i dont have an SM57..but this could be an option?)..i wanted to talk on the vid, but if this isnt viable i would simply do cutaways to the guitar playing.

Guitar playing is my thing, NOT recording..its something i hated awhen doing my music degree and its something i still hate years later...(just coz im a numpty) HOWEVER...these days, its something weve all got to get to grips with sooo...HELP ME PLEASE!
i really, really DONT want to have to resort to using my Line 6 Pod..i hate the vile waspy tone..but it is easy..i want to use my rig.
When using the recording outputs from the pre, there is so much noise and hiss as to make everything inaudible-plus the guitar sounds cheap and nasty...im not using the FX loop at the momnet as i dont have a stereo spitter cable so its also recording the guitar dry..which i dont like. the amazing sound and feel coming out of the cab bares no relation to what coming out of the monitors.
Are there any gurus out there that can give me some good advice on this as ive been putting off recording for you tube for too long and its time i got out there...
cheers guys!

Your question is very cryptic. You may want to put more thought into it and post again.

A guitar signal through a preamp will always be somewhat noisy. That's just the nature of the beast. We use noise gates and compressors all the time to try to limit the noise. One simple thing to do or check is how well your pickups are shielded. Even high end guitars can have poor shielding. Read this: GuitarNuts.com - Wiring

The next thing that confuses me is that you are running from the preamp dry?? Why not use the POD if you are recording a dry signal anyway. If you want the sound of the amp, you will have to mic it. The preamp through the cabinet is what gives you tone.

I'm kungfooed also. Just looked up 'Triaxis. Wow. First, that thing can't do a decent s/n ratio, or are you just talking about that normal penalty any amp has running supper distorted?
Second why would the same setup be any quieter at from the speaker?
Noise', FX loops, splitters', dry sound... Record it with the mic.
?

sorry for the vague posting!...
ive experimented taking the signal direct from the recording outs of the preamp into the mixer line in. this by passes the FX loop, as i have the FX processor running from the regular preamp outputs>FX>Power amp>cab, rather than using the FX loop -hence the signal is dry when running from the recording outputs, if that makes sense. id rather it be effected.
i use an alesis 3630 compressor/gate/limiter before the preamp as im using a strat, therefore, it both thickens the tone, and supresses any single coil hum.
there isnt an excessive amount of noise from the cab, even when the noise gate is open, unless of course i sit right next to the guitar rig...the noise seems to come directly from the recording out..the mixer is a little bit noisey however (Topaz s28-4).n to add to the fun, i dont think the sound card in my mac has a great s/n ratio (audiophile 24/96).
could i go directly from the FX processor?
As i say, my expertise is a guitarist/musician, not an engineer unfortunately..and if i do a recording session somebody else is twiddling the knobs!
sorry for sounding like a newb!
