I have the following:
Mixcraft 7
Amplitude metal
Guitar rig 4
Scarlett 2i2
Shure sm57
Peavey 6505+ 112 (head)
Ibanez slanted 4x12 cab
7 string ibanez rg
Ez drummer metalheads

Now my question is, how should i go about recording? Should i direct my guitar to the scarlett and use a amp simulator, or should i mic up the sm57? I feel like im having a really hard time getting a bright but heavy guitar sound that youd hear on a cd.

I have recordings if anyone wants to check out what i mean.

Plug the mic into the scarlett or direct into computer?
I must also i add that i use suppression pedal by boss

Mic to Scarlett... The 57 is more than capable of getting good guitar amp sound...

Once you have decent (not to hot) signal into you DAW play around with EQ/G-Rig etc but try and get the sound right from source (your amp)

Alright cool. I heard the 2i2 only has one pre amp. Do i plug it into that port or the other? And how do i tell which ports which?

2i2 has 2 preamps... Doesn't matter which you plug into...
I have my vocal mic permanently plugged into one and my bass-guitar (I don't have an amp) permanently plugged into the other (mic is phantom xlr, bass is jack lead) so I don't ever really have to mess with gain settings (unless someone else is on the mic).

The 6505 has a mic emulator jack in the back, can i use that or should i just stay with sm57?

Try both! You have 2 inputs on the 2i2 so you can try both at the same time. Just send to separate channels in DAW...
Experiment and see what works!

I got all that stuff down. Now i just need to figure out how to eq the guitar. I record "deathcore". I cant stand it but its what my band writes. I can only stand like 2 or 3 bands in the genre lol. I cut off at 80hz and 8000hz and boosted around 4000. Sounds okay. Guitar sounds too gritty.

Maybe think about either writing your own stuff... Or joining a new band...
