How to promote my music

Personally I think online publicity combined with showing yourself to the persons and people in your scene, just be on others concert and they will go to yours. Play local and build yourself other. Norway is the devil when it comes to this. Our band has been playing for 5 years, only the last 1,5 years 1-3 times pr week practicing and recorded a demo. We can't get any gigs. Only at local youth cultur competition (once a year) and was step in for another band with 20 persons watching. That's ok.. But we told so many bookers and they said to call us and everything. Even a rock competition that is for unknown band and to get them under the spotlight.. ONLY the most famous rockbands around here with several hundreds fans and had several tours as well.. Doesn't make sense.. argh! I'm getting pissed, just thinking of it!

And social networking always helps ;) I've met a LOT of people just through the scene, knowing DJ's and photographers, etc.

I was prodding around a year or two ago online checking out musicians and venues and ran across a group that was arranging "concerts in the home." For me, this would be an ideal place to sell a few CDs - and encourage the INVITED guests of the host to bring their video cameras.

There was a whole series on how to host these events, what to charge, etc on youtube.

It's not quite the same as playing private parties. The people that are coming to house concerts are coming for the music. To support the musician and buy their products .... theater type seating... it's a concert - not a party.
