I don't know his music down to the molecule. I don't need to. I know that what I hear I don't like. Like I said, I didn't just hear hendrix for the fist time the other day. I've been hearing that mess for a long time. I've never liked it. I can't get with it. I didn't latch on in my formative years, and I don't latch on now. It doesn't impress me, move me, inspire me....in fact, it does just the opposite. I don't need to know every song from every album to know that I don't like it. I don't know every cut from Kanye Wests's new album. I know I don't like it. It's not just me being prejudiced. You know the kind of music I like and play, would you really expect someone like me to like hendrix? I wouldn't!
I'm glad you took the time to try to get into the Ramones, and I was happy to help you with that, but I wouldn't think any less of you if you hated them. Same with Rami. Or anyone else. I don't think any less of you guys for liking the beatles or hendrix or pink floyd or any of the stuff I typically don't like. The stuff I like is not for everyone. And in fact, the Ramones and the Clash are some of those bands that a lot of people like because they think they're supposed to. So most of my animosity is more towards fans of these kinds of bands as opposed to the bands themselves. I don't hate Paul McCartney. I hate the guy that wears a beatles shirt and goes on about how they're the greatest band ever while not being able to name more than a few hit songs. It's just weird to me. Pretty lame.
I think what is so surprising about you is you are so black and white on what you like and don't like. Not much middle ground. I find that to be a rare trait for a musician. Most musicians have a large palette of musical tastes. Maybe not crazy in love with all music, but more accepting of different genres and appreciative for the art form. Not trying to offend, I think you almost always know where I'm coming from, just observing something that isn't very common.

For the Beatles, eh, I liked them when I was kid because everyone liked them back then. But as I grew more into music, I really kind of didn't see the mystique behind them. Still, I can appreciate what they brought to music in general and I can see the workings of their songwriting skills and how they built their harmonies. I don't think any band out there could do harmonies like the Beatles or the Beach Boys. I gotta appreciate that even if I don't listen to them.
